I am confused as to what is going on here. Not a huge surprise since I am more of a politics for dummies type.
I think that Republicans plan to all vote no to raise the dead ceiling as So they can point to this vote as a sign they are the party of fiscal responsibility during the coming battle over the seemingly outrageously high 3.5 trillion dem plan. . Democrats have the numbers to raise the debt ceiling without any Republican support. Obviously, the debt ceiling has to be raised. Would make no sense otherwise. Plus, this is us paying our bills, not increase in spending going forward.
What I specifically don?t understand is quotes from multiple Democrats including Ms Pelosi, indicating They do not want to raise the dead ceiling without Republican support. Why would they care how raising the debt ceiling gets done, and why they want Republican votes if they already have enough votes to pull it off?
If we can try to keep this from being attack on one side or the other and maybe discuss it matter-of-factly, that would be cool. Im just looking for an education on why Republican votes even matter to the party in power. Thanks In advance for leaving keeping it civil.
