Our species' advances in technology, combined with some of our lingering tendencies of human nature, have created this new word for our lexicon.
In preparation, I tried asking google,
what are "deep fakes"?
figuring it was still two whole words, just like in the old days. I also expected google's AI just to return one of its AI overviews with a few key points. There are apparently too many key points and the search returned the following, rather new, wikipedia page:

If coffee is magic, I may check that out deeper but it is quite long, although looks like about a third is just the footnotes.
I presume that our legal systems are doing a tricky dance trying to keep up with these changes. I've seen that quite drastically for internet laws, in general, but this really throws a new monkey wrench into our legislators poorly edited scribblings.
If anybody has heard any good media stories about legal cases or related issues, involving deepfakes of any kind, then it would be groovy if you could share.
I found a couple of lesser transgressions in the form of some fake music manglings. I say "lesser" but one of the examples got me thinking about the fact that people have been beheaded for depicting Mohammad in both cartoon and even more favorable ways. Some things weren't meant to be fucked with and I can see how some people, just slightly less stable than yours truly, might react to such blasphemy with vigor.
From youtube and I don't mind sharing them here as I hope that the point will not be missed that these are FAKE!!!
The first example is more bearable as the uploader actually states in the video description, and under the description of his channel, that his shit is malarkey (my words). I came across this video, quickly sampled some of this alleged release, and popped it in my faves. Checking it out a short time later, the red flags were obvious as even the early commenters were throwing around their AI accusations. Some trippy, psychedelic stuff by a imaginary Middle Eastern / International super-group of sorts:

My insomnia did check it out and its cool for a bit until seeming to become quite repetitive.
This next one is less forgivable. No comment from the uploader, at all, on the means or matter for this deception. 536 comments at the time I scrolled through them. I confess to not carefully reading each one, but a reasonable scrutiny saw me find zero mention of any chicanery until down a good couple of hundred comments. This did not open the floodgates to more as the subsequent spew was just about favorite songs, the better version, and other evidence that our species has more fingers than brain cells.
This is NOT an unreleased version by Pink Floyd. Trust me.
