the more that i read or hear anything about the democratic candidates, the more disappointed i get. imo, they have no idea about how the american public feels about the war on terrorism.

Dems Criticize Bush, Omit Facts Sometimes

By NEDRA PICKLER

WASHINGTON -- The Democratic presidential candidates criticized President Bush's record on the economy and fighting terrorism in a debate Tuesday night, but some of their jabs left out important facts.

Sen. Joe Lieberman declared it would take a Democratic president to "get this economy going," but the economy has been gaining momentum over the last several months since Bush's second tax cut took effect.

Weekly claims for unemployment insurance have fallen since April, and economic growth and productivity in the third-quarter reached 20-year highs.

Two of the candidates used a favorite attack line against Bush -- Lieberman said "3.5 million people have lost their jobs" and Howard Dean said "3 million jobs lost are 3 million too many" -- but their statements also ignored the improving economy.

It is true that about 3 million jobs were lost during the early months of the Bush presidency. But that trend has been reversing for several months as the jobless rate has dropped from a peak of 6.4 percent in June to 5.9 percent last month.

Several of the nine Democrats attacked the tax cuts Bush pushed through Congress. But none mentioned that Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, who has served both Republican and Democratic presidents, has cited those cuts as a reason for the recent growth of the economy.

"Economic activity perked up in late spring and then accelerated further this summer as tax cuts provided a substantial booth," Greenspan said recently.

Both Wesley Clark and Dean accused Bush of "not fighting terrorism." Although al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden remains at large, the administration's war has substantially thinned the ranks of his network, including the arrest earlier this year of Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. The administration also has thwarted dozens of attacks through increased cooperation with allies.

On the Iraq front, Dean declared "I think we need to bring in foreign troops," suggesting Americans have been going it alone. While some big Western allies, like Germany and France, have refused to provide troops for Iraq, the campaign has received thousands of troops from the likes of Britain, Poland, Japan, Italy, Hungary, Denmark and Ukraine.

NATO countries have sent about 24,000 soldiers, compared to 130,000 U.S. troops.

Even Ted Koppel, the ABC newsman who moderated the debate, waded into the gray area of truth when he declared that Dean had raised more money than anyone in the campaign.

While Dean's $25 million through September tops the Democratic field, it is dwarfed by the more than $100 million Bush has already raised as a Republican with no primary opponent

It does disappoint me that none of the nine candidates come and blame this fraud Greenspan for the downturn in the first place. Lest not forget it was Greenspan who put the casbah on the ecconomy when he raised intrest rates four times during the last Presidential Campaign to slow down this economy that he hasn't been able to start up for almost four years now. Greenspan must be replaced by whoever gets in.

stevie,

the problem that i have with these candidates is the hostility towards our president. i have heard these candidates call bush all types of names, including the 4 letter variety. imo, these candidates are the ones who look bad & not "presidential". i don't mind them criticizing bush, because in some cases it is deserved, but the way they are doing it will not get them elected. imo if it continues, bush will win re-election in a landslide.

I hope the real good things that come form this is. The American people come to see that our elected offcials from both sides. Well they not only strech the truth . They just plain lie. Then blame it on the source they got it from when it's called to there attention.
Another just maybe we could get these folks to stop waisting so much time and money running for office. We should have a Law a Natinal Law. Nothing starts for President till Jan 1st of that election year. In this case we would not have had to listen to any of these depates. Bush would not have been running around on our time rasing money. It would not start till 1/1/04. 11 months should be more then enough. It's such a waist. Chit some this crap started 10 months ago.
As for this recovery. Im still waiting to see if it's real. We should know by March 1st. One thing about jobs needed and lost. We fall behind more each month. We need 75000 new a month. And we still need to find away to put 3.2 million back to work at the same time.
As for Iraq. It's still a mess and we need some new thinking. I don't care who from, Bush, Clark whom ever. But something new. And no more sweet heart deals.

AR What gets me the most is the Dems seem to have no platforms they are pushing and campaigning on negative stuff on current administration with no solutions.--and appears they are using same tactics against each other. This Gore deal yesterday is interesting. How about back stabbing Lieberman. I can't help but like Lieberman and peg him as a straight shooter and would personally preferr him as vice pres over our current one. No secret on internal struggle within party on the mid road followers of the Clintons and the hard lefts of Dean. This will get nasty before its over.
Personally I don't think Dean has shot in hell. Only bout 1/3 of Dems will go for the far left agenda--but they will be adament.
You got Jessie, the Aclu group and Gore backing him---and the way I see it the only way they can float is if they find a way to get the indigents to the polls. They have the #'s if they could just get them to the booths and read the voting instructions to them.

Now on Bush--He has done some things of late I adamantly disagree with, increasing gov exposure in health care being the biggest. I think if one item will kill him it is that.

The war I think will be big plus and I believe others are also--

-----as I think saftey this day and time is americans primary concern with economy close 2nd.--and while I don't believe the tax cut had that much to do with it as I previously stated I find it just short of miraculous the way the economy is considering 9-11 and 2 wars in his 1st term.
---and on the job issue if you take into consideration the loss of job on the dot com collapse it is not so bad.
The main indicator I would look at there is manufacturing jobs and they have been in decline since 1986 due to increased productivety. Takes about 1 person to do the job of 2.3 back then.

I have said for years the ole 80-20 rule where 80% of population take care of the 20% that can not or will not work is drasically changing. Want to see something scary--take a look at these #'s.
I would hate to be someone in the age 30 bracket just starting out in life. As it is these 70 million whos #'s increase ever year that pay no taxes that are the angry "it not my fault" left segment of the population that will be making decisions for those that pay the taxes.

"We are approaching the point where voters adversely affected by the income tax are a minority that can be exploited to the hilt. There are 129 million taxpayers. The top 5 percent of income earners (6.5 million people) already bear 54 percent of the income tax burden. The top 25 percent (32 million people) pay 83 percent of the total personal income tax collection.
The remaining 75 percent of taxpayers (97 million people) bear only 17 percent of the income tax burden, and 70 million voters have no income tax liability whatsoever.
With 167 million voters with little or no income tax liability and 32 million burdened with 83 percent of the liability, have we achieved the tyranny of the majority? Will the political temptation to plunder the minority and to turn them into tax slaves destroy the creativity and productivity of the American economy?"

LET'S HEAR FROM SOME OTHER HOWARD DEAN SUPPORTERS

LET'S HEAR FROM SOME OTHER HOWARD DEAN SUPPORTERS

WSJ Best of the Web

The New York Post tells us about a Dean event in New York ... a fundraiser. The attraction for this particular fundraiser, other than Howard Dean himself, were comedians Judy Gold and Janeane Garofalo, the lady who fancies herself as a potential liberal talk radio host.

The lovely Judy Gold cited the reason she is supporting Howard Dean: "We have to get this piece of living, breathing sh_ _ out of the office." Isn't that just unbelievable? This actually makes you want to listen to the Ditzy Twits again. At least Natalie didn't call the president a "living, breathing sh _ _." Just imagine the smiles on the faces of those who hate America, those who would like to kill as many Americans as possible. How could the enemies of America not take comfort in an award-winning entertainer referring to the president in that manner.

Janeane Garofalo was mild by comparison. She merely chimed in with her own title for the prescription drug benefit Bush signed this week, calling it the "you can go fu _ k yourself Grandma bill. Nice talk, Janeane ... do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

James Taranto has the perfect name for these Dean supporters ... "Deanie babies." You couldn't describe them better. No Democrat, by the way, would ever refer to those expressions as "hate speech." Only Republicans can engage in hate speech. It's a law.

Nedra Pickler will be looking for a new job soon. The AP won't tolerate this sort of writing. She must have lied in the screening process. Good story, Nedra, but start putting in applications.
