I know he's a Republican, but he crushed it in the bluest of blue states because he decided to become a social Democrat and fiscal Republican. Democrats need to realize that big government is just wholly unacceptable to the country because the communications revolution has taught people that bloated inefficiency is not the path to prosperity.
The Republican party seems to have morphed from the party of conservatism to the party of theocracy. That's the only conclusion I can come to when I see moves like attempting to take the gay marriage issues from the states' hands, banning financial institutions from dealing with online gambling sites and attempting to limit abortion rights. None of those things fit in with a conservative agenda of personal freedom and limited government.
Hopefully the Democrats realize that this win was not an endorsement for them, but a rejection of the Republicans' move from conservatism to theocracy. We need to take advantage of the void the Republicans are leaving and offer a more conservative fiscal approach that will help lead to a lasting Democratic majority.
