Can't ever seem to nail anyone down on who is poor-what is middle class ect--but getting a little clearer pic now with $ figures added to equation.

Kids Care

Congressional Democrats are pushing legislation that would expand the reach of the federal program that feeds money to states to pay for poor children's health insurance.

But The Washington Times reports the Senate version would raise the eligibility ceiling on family income to about $62,000 a year for a family of four ? three times the national poverty standard. New York state wants to raise its cutoff level to $83,000. These changes would put millions more children in the program.

And thousands of families who make enough to pay the Alternative Minimum Tax ? designed for wealthy people ? would also qualify for the government-subsidized health care.

I understand your eternal search for answers from liberals on this, much like my eternal search for what is a "fair" tax rate for people to pay - when they eternally complain about paying taxes.

To your point here, the states seem to be grabbing for federal funds, and I personally would not qualify the stated numbers you posted to be "poor" people - if making $63K or $85K - or whatever the numbers are. I think it's a noble idea and good way to spend some federal funds if the money goes directly to child medical issues - but should go to those at low incomes that are much lower than that.
