34 ALEX ORIAKHI, F, 6-9, Jr., 6.4

What To Watch For

CALHOUN'S STATUS: Jim Calhoun will miss his fourth game since taking a medical leave to address his spinal condition. The Huskies are again in the experienced hands of George Blaney.

MORAL MOMENTUM? The Huskies played much better at Syracuse, but still lost by a lot. Can they convert those positives into a win?

INJURY BUG: Drummond (ankle), Lamb (toe) and Roscoe Smith (Achilles') are dealing with injuries. Drummond and Lamb are probable; Smith, who did not practice Tuesday, is questionable.

Purnell: DePaul 'real close' to turning corner

Getting off to a fast start has not been a problem for DePaul lately. Finishing strong has been the issue.

In their last four games, the Blue Demons (11-13, 2-10 in the Big East) either have led or been tied at the half, only to lose to St. John's (87-81), Cincinnati (74-66), Marquette (89-76) and Notre Dame (84-76). DePaul led St. John?s, Cincinnati and Marquette and was tied with Notre Dame at the half.

?We?re obviously real close,? DePaul coach Oliver Purnell said Monday. ?When you?re making a transition and you?re trying to build and you?re trying to get better and learn to win, you?ve got to understand where you are and just keep hitting that rock. And make your players understand that.

?Everybody who is not close to the program and not working every day and not doing what we?re doing ... maybe they don?t understand. But it is really important that our coaching staff and players understand that we?re real close and we just keep battling. And hopefully we can get over the hump in the next one.?

The Blue Demons, losers of nine of their last 10, travel to Connecticut on Wednesday night before hosting Louisville on Saturday.

?It?s all about learning to close the deal and that?s what you do in a process like this,? Purnell said.
