Good to see u back. Dan the Bluegrass Man is a scratch. I wonder if he'll make another play with a different horse? GL, and thanks for the picks.

Field at 18 after Danthebluegrassman 'cramped up'
Associated Press

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Danthebluegrassman, trained by Bob Baffert, was scratched from Saturday's Kentucky Derby when he "cramped up" after a morning jog, reducing the field to 18 3-year-olds.

On Friday, Wood Memorial winner Buddha was scratched with a bruised left front foot.

Baffert, who still has a chance for his third Derby win with War Emblem, said last-minute entry Danthebluegrassman had muscle problems in his hind legs and back after returning to the barn.

"He just jogged this morning and looked fine," Baffert said. "But after we bathed him, one of my assistants noticed he was walking a little short. He was tightening up. It's like getting a charley horse.

"Not only do you have to treat him, you have to give him muscle relaxers. And you just can't run him after that."

Danthebluegrassman, owned by Mike Pegram and named after the owner's friend Dan Chandler, was 50-1 on the morning line. In his last start, the colt finished last in the Santa Anita Derby.

"If you don't get on it right away it can be bad," Baffert said.
