Predators goalie coach Mitch Korn uses a financial comparison in describing the rough outing of netminder Dan Ellis on Tuesday at St. Louis.

Ellis had recently posted a franchise-record shutout streak of 233 minutes and
39 seconds, but on Tuesday he was pulled after surrendering three goals on the Blues' first seven shots.

"It was like the stock market ? a slight correction that got us back to square one before we can start moving upward again,'' Korn said. "That's all. The (early) pull wasn't him. He had six good scoring chances against him before we had a single shot.''

Chris Mason relieved Ellis and stopped all 10 shots he faced, but based on Ellis' recent hot streak and the fact he's started the past 10 games, Ellis is the likely starter tonight when the Predators face St. Louis again.

It appears Manny Legace is the likely starter for the Blues. He shut the Predators out in the first period on Tuesday, but left the game with a hip flexor injury.

In 27 appearances against Nashville he has a 2.16 goals against average and .917 save percentage.

Taking steps: Predators center David Legwand is seeing at least a little bit of progress on the injury front.

Legwand, out since March 7 with a deep bone bruise on top of his foot, was allowed by doctors to discard his crutches on Monday.

He's still wearing a walking boot, however.

"Getting rid of the crutches was a good thing ? I'm putting weight on the foot so it's feeling better,'' Legwand said.

Legwand has been ruled out for the regular season, but hopes to return at some point if the Predators reach the playoffs.

Forward Darcy Hordichuk practiced Wednesday for the first time since suffering a knee injury on Friday.

He said another practice or two should have him in game condition.
