HOME BLUES: At home, right-hander Jeff Weaver is 3-5 with a 4.92 ERA. On the road, he's 3-2 with a 2.09. That's the best road ERA of any American League starter except Pedro Martinez.
"On the road, it's a little bit more relaxed because you've got the people rooting against you," said Weaver, who will start today. "For some reason, I don't get as frustrated in front of a crowd on the road."
Eight of the nine homers allowed by Weaver have been at home.
"The overaggressiveness at home is shown by the home runs. You want to give your best performances in front of your fans, and when it doesn't work out, it's more frustrating."
INJURY NEWS: Shortstop Deivi Cruz did baseball-related activity -- fielding grounders and jogging -- for the first time Wednesday since suffering a broken foot three weeks ago. "This will be a critical next week to give us a clue about how we can move along with Deivi," trainer Russ Miller said.... Brian Moehler continues to have tests that will allow club officials to decide by week's end whether he will need season-ending exploratory surgery on his sore right shoulder.... Centerfielder Roger Cedeno didn't start Wednesday night because of the bruised rib cage he suffered diving for a ball Tuesday night. He said he felt pain when he stole second base Wednesday as a pinch-runner in the ninth. He hopes to start today.
