Ticker) - With Patrik Elias back on the ice, the New Jersey Devils had no room for Alexander Mogilny.

The Devils waived Mogilny on Wednesday, one day after Elias played for the first time this season.

New Jersey's leading scorer in each of the last five seasons, Elias had missed the first 39 games of the season while recovering from a serious case of Hepatitis A. He made his debut Tuesday, recording an assist in the Devils' 3-0 triumph over Florida.

Signed by New Jersey in August to provide some offense in Elias' absence, Mogilny had 12 goals and 13 assists in 34 games this season. He did not record a point in his final five contests and had just three goals and six points in December.

Mogilny, who withdrew his name from consideration for the Russian Olympic Team before the roster was announced last month, has collected 473 goals and 559 assists in 990 career games with with Buffalo, Vancouver, Toronto and New Jersey.

Wearing his trademark jersey No. 89, which also was the position he was drafted by the Sabres in 1988, Mogilny is a four-time All-Star who helped lead the Devils to the Stanley Cup in 2000.
