My dishwasher has standing water in the bottom of it. Even after running it empty after first noticing it, it still has water in the bottom. Sounds like the drain is clogged, maybe? Is there any cheap way I could try to fix this by myself without getting a 100 dollar repair bill? It is a Whirlpool model. Maybe it's a different problem? If it is the drain being clogged, where is the drain and how do I unclog it? This is not in my area of expertise. Thanks for any help.

My neighbor had a problem w/water leaking on the floor just under the cover. Seems after a while the screws that seal the door needed to be adjusted because they came loose during wear & tear. As for your problem, don't know roght off unless this has to do w/anti-siphon valve. Just a shot in the dark. GL2U

If you have a garbage disposal, the dishwasher's drain hose is most likely connected to it under the sink. If so, remove the hose and check for clogging. Good luck. (The lower panel of the dishwasher can be removed so that you can get under it to work)

6-5. ..

Pull the dish rack out of the dishwasher. In the middle there should be a round, sieve like piece with probably four arms. That will come off also. Once you have that off, you can see if anything is clogging up that area down there. You;ll usually find some utensils, etc stuck sown in there. There will also be a fill-valve in the back (usually right-side) of the dishwasher. Shouldn't be too hard to fix.

Good luck

what do you do if your dishwater stops working ?

Kick her in the ass.....

Or maybe this will help .

There is something called a pump screen, usually located in the well at the base of the unit, letting it clog is a bad idea. Make sure you remove any large food particles from the pump screen with your fingers and then scrub the screen filter clean with a stiff toothbrush or a small brush.

If the pump strainers and spray armholes are free of small food particles and other deposits, the water will flow unchecked.

The holes in the rotating spray arm in the center of the dishwasher can also get clogged. Prevent that by regularly cleaning them. Use a needle or a pin to unclog any holes that you cannot see through in the spray arms. Poke the wire through the hole and wiggle it back and forth to dislodge the dirt or food particles. When all the holes are open, turn the arm so the large center opening that fits on the shaft faces down. Then shake the hollow arm so all the small particles fall out of the opening. If you don't get most of these loose particles out of the arm, they will reclog it as soon as you run the dishwasher.

Periodically clean the interior sides and inside of the door by washing it down with a paste of baking soda and water. Use a sponge to wipe off stains (if they're stubborn let the paste set for a while) and remove tough areas with a scrubbing pad.

Prevent any caking up of soap in the soap compartment; do not let any soap accumulate in there.

Keep the door panel (and/or all 4 sides of the unit if it's a portable) clean by washing with a mild soap and water solution. For spotted areas that are especially noticeable on black glass fronts, use a damp sponge dipped in borax. Rinse with water and dry with a soft rag.

Daily use of your dishwasher keeps water in the bottom of the tub, which lubricates the rubber, seals in the unit and pump. If you're going to be away for several months, pour an ounce of cooking oil into the puddle of standing water in the bottom to keep the water from evaporating. This helps prevent the rubber parts from drying out and shrinking during the long lay-up.

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
6/5, always wanted to ask, is that your height?:)
This problem could be a number of things, or it might not be a problem at all. Some/most dishwashers allow a small amount of rinse water to remain in the bottom after the full cycle. Although it sounds like you are noticing this problem as being unusual. Scott has alot of good ideas, some I've never heard of(thanks Scotty) but a quick check and frequent problem that has not been mentioned is a clogged or semi-clogged "return valve"(called many different things) which is generally located on top of your sink. Pull the decorative cover off, unscrew the unit (generally plastic) and pull the cover off(this may take some doing as they are meant to be a compression fit so the water pressure doesn't blow them off). Many times you will find, toothpicks, pieces of plastic, labels from food containers, etc. stuck in there and this will prohibt all the water from running out.
If you are experiencing leaking out the front or suds coming out from below, you are probably using to much soap, which will cause a PH imbalance and thus create this problem. I myself succumb to this annoyance on occasion, "thinking more soap, cleaner dishes":( One cup of acid (real Lemon juice) run thru a cycle will take care of that. Feel free to ask of me any building/property/maintenance questions, happy to help my fellow MJ' ers :D
Hope that works 6/5

Stuman / THE RAT

I think what THE RAT is saying is ...

He is proud of the flag avatar and the patriotism it represents to him.

It makes him feel good.

We should all be on notice that soon THE RAT will be back providing some cheese for all of us here at Madjacks to enjoy.

THE RAT is 18-4 on totals this year, and his regular lassy plays are 15-1.

Hope that helps
