DTB I will suggest a few cdn. stocks that trade in the US...not sure how they are treated for divs..

1. Enbridge ENB have owned this for over 10 years probably 15, and my one complaint is why do not own more. they will probably raise their dividend and have growth, and good pure play North American pipeline.

$44.65 US 47.40 cdn. div $1.70 cdn. 3.76%
low 27.49 high 46.43

2009 earnings per share 2.95-2.12 2010 2-2.30

dividend increased for the past 8 years.
div growth 3 yr. 6.82%
div growth 5 yr 8.99%

2. TransCanada Pipelines
TRP 35.48 cdn. 33.48 US $1.52 div cdn. 4.5%

2009 earnings/share 2.30-2.35 2010 2.67-2.50
5 year dividend increases
div growth 3yr. 5.02%
div growth 5yr. 8.59%

These stocks have had a good run, and would like them much better if they pulled back 2-5%, saying that if you bought in slowly and not be hurt. would buy on a 10% correction. great stocks for a buy and hold with growing divs, and growth though small.

together probably 10% return counting the div, avgerage, going forward.

note: TRP is into power, so they are not a pure pipeline, the power side should do fine, with even slow growth in North America.

These are not widow and orphan stocks exactly, though maybe close as at times they can be volatile.

own both, have options on both espcially trp, and hoping it stays flat or goes down another dollar....

thanks

Thanks Kirk Was hoping you had a couple canadian companies--will add both for sure
--would be tickled pink if all returned 10% a year :)

When time permits take a look at these I've got on watch list and let me know any that you'd throw out--

I've really like CEL but always scared what would happen if they bombed Iran same with PTNR

Symbol P/E Ex-Div Yield PEG Ratio
- - - - -

ENI 359.67 2009-12-09 2.20% 4.88
South American power, not sure about the other countries but like Brazil going forward, may be the best of the bric but that is up for debate. lower yield but you get the growth.

- - - - - NMM 10.03 2009-11-05 10.80% 0.90
Shipper, railways are tied to the economy and shippers even more so, should be good for the first part of the year, when you fear a correction pull back.

- - - - - ATO 14.31 2009-11-23 4.60% 2.67
natural gas util. transmission, and storage..low growth but should be stable div.

- - - - - TSM 27.54 2009-07-15 3.20% 1.66
semis, do not follow the group much, in many ways like a commodity, as long as the inventories are building should do fine...volatile. would be great to get out at the top and buy at the bottom of the inven. cycle.

- - - - - OTE N/A 2009-06-29 6.30% N/A
teleco in Greece, also romania, bulgaria. should do fine, though I have no idea how the greece debt crisis will turn out...there was a rally because not downgraded as much as feared. also the govt. is bringing in more cost controls, ect. and probably taxes. should do fine, but a higher risk/reward play...is long as greece does not go off a cliff div. safe..

- - - - - HI 11.28 2009-12-15 4.00% 2.29
the funeral home. making caskets and urns, is probably a good place to be, small business but profitable. lower marigns are the cemetaries.
decent div. and slow growth...acutally depends on the death rate...should be a decent long term play...baby boomers.

- - - - - OGE 14.32 2010-01-06 4.00% 2.42
another natural gas ut. /pipeline 3.90% in US, slow growth, stable div.

- - - - - CEL 10.78 2009-08-27 10.20% 1.18
high div 9.4%, and a chance of fast paced growth. concerns are pollitical, not worried about a war between Iran and Israel, for now...believe the US will urge Israel to hold back as the Iran regime may topel from within...does it happen in time. also plo, ect. still fast growth company, with higher risks, but that is why it sell for this price. if in North america this stock would be 50-100% higher.

- - - - - PTNR 11.53 2009-11-23 8.20% 1.50
same as CEL Israel, high paced growth. you have to hope for relative peace in the area. so investors do not flee the plays.

- - - - - NPD N/A 2009-09-23 4.80% 5.36
China drug store, have no idea, with drug stores it come down to management, in Canada Shoppers drug mart, (close to fully valued) has brilliant management, some of the best in the world...there is a few examples in US of bad.

- - - - - CHT 13.92 2009-07-30 4.60% 6.88
taiwan telepone...only concern is the fixed line, and how much wirless they have, data...and how much the fixed line will drop off and any compeition.

- - - - - XEL 14.45 2009-12-22 4.50% 2.02
power ut. yields 4.50% and slow growth. in the US.

- - - - - SGAPY.PK N/A - - N/A
sinapore tele, no idea..

- - - - - NED N/A 2008-12-26 10.00% 0.85
China education materials, no idea...you need close ties to the government..at all times.

- - - - - CTEL 11.70 2009-12-10 8.80% N/A
Hong Kong telephone, also listed as doing business in Canada, never heard of them...big yield, how much is fixed line, and how quickly will that dissappear, or is wireless and data going to make up for it...also competition...

- - - - - NZT 6.89 2009-11-17 9.80% N/A
another international telco,...sensing a theme...high div. low growth...like the chance for growth in New Zealand and Aust.

- - - - - MTA 9.45 2009-04-27 N/A N/A
telco, in Hungary...no idea.

- - - - - SYY 15.18 2009-10-06 3.50% 1.00
have owned this company, when you go out to eat they probably have supplied the food. biggest in North America...safe stable div...should actually be helped by the growing economy...1-3% better than the past year... very low growth stable div.
well run, lower margin business.

- - - - - GSH N/A 2009-05-21 2.60% N/A
small div, but a chance of very high growth..., would prefer more freight than passenger traffic.. they have more passenger traffic...and in most cases avoid passenger railway companies...but they have higher growth..and this is China..very high population..so probably worth the risk..and hopefully they could build up their freight side.

- - - - - ODC 11.72 2010-02-17 3.90% N/A
cat litter, low pe, slow growth and div looks stable... no very little about this business.

thanks

Wow Kirk Much more than I was expecting--I feel I owe you something for all that work :)

Much appreciated. Since starting thread have only bought one so far and that was your TRP recommendation. Bought it Monday before Tuesday's exdate to capture div.

I certainly appreciate your time on these. will be 60 in feb and am going to take more conservative posture--have been extremely lucky on a few stocks past 6 months and not giving it back if I can help it-
-as you noted most above of these not much on growth but steady div for most part--after reviewing your anaysis will reduce this list by 1/3 and keep looking. Thanks again

Might bother you after the 1st of year on your recommendation for asset allocation for one nearing retirement.:)

DTB that is a good list, there was not one stock that seemed to be a screaming short... ( now there is a new term).

you may also want to look at an etf in the int. telcos.. the only one comes to mind is IXP. would still select some of you indivual ones, and then maybe see how it compares to this index...there are a few china telcos in there...mer. .48.
DGG is a wisdom tree product but is in advertising and media, not sure care for those, and even less volume.

yield 3-5%, also not the biggest volume, that is one of the drawbacks, still worth watching, to compare to your indivual names...owned it in the past not anymore.

thanks
