Not sure either as Kidd is on his last legs. I know Stackhouse isn't much younger, but giving up Harris as well?

I also didn't understand Phoenix picking up Shaq as he's WAY past his prime. I guess some owners believe these mid 30's ballers can regain their old form come playoff time.

The NBA has always been good about giving their ticket sellers a chance at or another chance at a ring. Used to be it was the stars like "Pistel Pete" or Bill Walton (already had one ring) who had spent their career in a small market that really had no chance to win it all. There wasn't the parity there is today so they put them on the Lakers or Bos where they had a real shot. If Shak want's another shot at a ring, he gets it. Same with Kidd. If McAdoo had been anywhere other than Buff in his prime, you would still be talking about him. Got his ring with LA. There's been others but these are the ones that come to mind.

Mavs gave up way too much for Kidd.. Better deal the 2nd time a round not losing Stackhouse,, but 2 first round draft picks as well?? It helps Harris is out another 2 weeks though...

Had to make a move Dallas was going nowhere with the team they had. Still may go nowhere but at least they are trying?

Same deal with Phoe. what did they ever win with Marion?

Think both teams made themselves better Playoff teams! Good enough probably not

Mavs did get better,, but still aren't going anywhere in the West.. the West is crazy.. 9th place team in the West would be about 3rd in the East..

Going nowhere???? This same team made it to the finals on the brink of the championship 2 years ago and had the best record in the NBA last year but faultered in the first rd...............as long as they make the playoffs they still were a good team capable of winning it all............

Now I am not so sure???

This years Mavs team is not playing as well as the last two years, that is for sure. Even so, best record regular season, so what! If they had to play Utah in the first round without Kidd forget about it, season over! Probably still over, but I like there chances better now.

the mavs reaching the finals two years ago,, the west is so much tougher/deeper now.. mavs had their chance against Miami,, they blew it.. Avery needed more experience before he got the job,, Nellie outcoached him so much in the first round last year,, he made Avery adjust to his moves,, why?? Mavs were the 1 seed.. you make the 8 seed adjust to you... I live in Dallas and know what's up.. Mavs are 2 games from being out of the playoffs and also 3 games out of first.. I am a big Dirk fan,, but he wants to be Scottie Pippen when everyone else wants him to be Jordan

I agree that DAL gave up way too much to get KIDD, but if it gets CUBAN a ring, he won't care. Problem is, I don't see it happening this year... or the next 2 or 3 when KIDD will then be like 40.

Even with KIDD, DAL is still about the fourth or fifth best team in the NBA, if that. SPURS are still team to beat because of their experience, but I think the LAKERS give everyone fear right now. They are the deepest team in the league, and have so many components to adjust to. If Bynum returns healthy, a starting five of KOBE, FISH, ODOM, GASOL, BYNUM is pretty tough to match up with. If a team goes small, the LAKERS can counter with ARIZA, FARMAR, TURIAF, WALTON, and the MACHINE SASHA, and let's not forget the 6' 10 shooter VLAD RAD, who was a starter last night vs the SUNS. Mihm could still make it back to give them another BIG down low, and if nothing else, 6 fouls to use pounding on Duncan. MBENGA could do the same thing, but no team in the NBA plays ten players regular minutes like the LAKERS do.

I'm not declaring LA the championship yet, they could fail due to youth and inexperience, but on paper, I don't see another team close to them once they get back Bynum & Ariza.
