does anyone else second guess Gonzalez??

since the question of Schilling has been debated to death, I agree with Fletcher and that once the decision was made to ride Schilling in game 4, Brenley should have let him finish the job. A 3-1 lead at Yankee Stadium with that short right field porch is no place to start saving 20 or 30 pitches. probably a better place to save shillings are a bit was in Arizona in game 1, a 9-1 game being played in that airport is a more practical place to play conservative & they let him go 120 pitches that night.

That being said does anyone think Gonzalez has played the 2 balls hit to him correctly? I think he has Miss played both fly balls, and to a large extent cost Arizona 2 Ball games. And this has almost gone without discussion. In game 3 with the score tied 1-1, O'Neill was on second & Knobloch hit a fly Ball to left field. It looked to me that Gonzalez got a terrible jumper on the Ball. Still O'Neill reacted like the Ball was going to be caught, and looked shocked when it wasn't. Gonzalez has to know with 2 outs O'Neill is going to score no matter what if the Ball isn't caught. I see no logic to play it safe on a bounce. In my opinion Gonzalez had to sell out & commit to making that catch! I don't even think it was as difficult p catch as Spencer made to save the Yankees at least 1 run.

Last night different situation same effort, with 2 down in 9th inning & nobody on base O'Neill run means absolutely nothing. Why not sell out & tray to catch that ball? If the Ball gets by it rolls to the Wall & O'Neill is on second or third instead of first. Really there is no difference, at this juncture Martinez is the important tying run. Which brings us to why Swindell was not bought in 2 face Martinez?? He was brought in the night before in a 2-1 game so obviously Br enley has confidence in him. Lots of backing Arizona coaching staff, I think they have made critical errors. Truly hoping they can bounce back-guys like Johnson & Schilling & Witt & Grace & Finley &Williams deserved a ring. would appreciate feedback & opinions regarding Gonzalez.

May they all be winners

Shamrock......I couldnt agree more with your comments on Gonzos fielding. In gm 3 when he let the ball drop I actually thought he stopped instead of running to the ball. I really think he could have made that catch.

I totally agree. He has done nothing but piss me off with his fielding. He seems so lackadaisical in the field. I have yet to see him make a hard charge on any close fly balls. He has been pathetic. I could have caught most of those fly balls and Im not the swiftest fellow in the world!
