They are in double overtime on the road, after a day's rest,(which is what they had Game 1,only they were at home and didn't have to travel) and they are marathon men tonight........Can someone explain this one to me?................I'm all ear's............................C'mon,out of all the great handicapper's out there, surely someone can give me some insight here..........................................................................I do think I have it,IT'S BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGUS!!!

they won 60 games this year

they won 60 games this year

they played 7 grueling emotional games vs Port, everyone put fork in them etc ... they can score like nobody's business, and that is as important as offense depsite what many may say ... Least John wooden always insisted it was, so thats enuff for me ...

i recall a series in 1973, celts and knix, back when they were powers ...

Boston played game 1 in eastern finals in NY crushed them 134-108 ... everyone put fork in NY ... then they went to boston and the knix destroyed Celts 129-96 ... then the series settled down and was outstanding, NY beating celts in 7 and then defeating wilt and jerry 4-1 in finals ...

people tend to jump all over one game ... as a coach I always tell my players one game is one game is one game (simple but oh so true) ... One of my heroes (a sage opposing coach) in seattle that mentored me once said, "Gregg, we are always one game away from humility."

Guys on this board tend to jump to drastic conclusions, or say things are 'rigged or goofy' when events and runs transpire ... what sport doesnt have streaks? we tend to blame officials, missed FTs, and a myriad of things to rationlize our losses, but we never say: BOY, I WOULDNT HAVE WON THAT GAME WITHOUT THE REFS HELP.

No, it's always our great call, or intuitive inside knowledge ...

anyhow, thats my two cents on the subject ...

Second Wind

Second Wind

I'm 37 and not in the best of shape. On Friday evening, I was playing a few pick-up games at the park and had lost the first game. Blah...Blah...Blah... to make this story short, I felt a second wind and it felt like I can go on at that high level for at least another win. :D

Oh, yeah! Did I mention that I didn't even get paid for my efforts on the court, yet I gave it all I had. :D The Dallas/Sacramento Game 3 was great entertainment, but let's not give too much credit to these millionares in shorts, in terms of effort. Anyone of you guys out there would give it your all, just for the high you get from winning.

I agree with some of your point's Greg,I have to respectfully disagree on some also. I for one will readily admit when I get the benifit of officiating,or if a guy hit's a circus shot to give me a win out of nowhere.I also tend to bitch (alot) when I lose one that way. The thing that I'm talking about here is the effort (or lack thereof) that was disgracefully displayed in Game 1. Hat's off to the Mav's 60+ win's, My point is the purpose for winning those 60+ games if FOR HOME COURT ADVANTAGE!!!. These guy's play a long and grueling season,I don't dispute that, but they make million's of dollar's to do it,AND THEY ARE WORLD CLASS ATHLETE'S....................RIGHT? I mean these guy's are physically and mentally the best player's in the WORLD.I see more effort at a local Hoopfest tournament .Yeah, A bunch of old,out of shape ex-jock's,playing on the asphault,in the middle of summer, for a freakin trophy............................I mean,it's bad enough to watch the Denver's,and Golden State's, ect.,start playing out the season about 2 week's after it start's,but play-off team's?With Home court adv.?..............The other point I was trying to make is the excuse's the announcer's we making.Tired,spent,fatigued,blah,blah,blah. Let's get honest,"grueling series with Portland'? ( for 4 night's before Game 1, Dallas was sleeping in their own bed).Portland, plagued with injuries.Dallas leading the series 3-1.I dont' think they spent theirselves,on games 5,6 which the lost to allow Portland back in the series. The presure was all on Portland in those games. So the played a tough game 7,(read earlier point's made). Bottom line,if your a pro athlete, and your in the playoff's,you have home court, at least show some effort.....................

I respect you as a person, and I appreciate alot of the thing's you say in your posting, and I'm sure you a good coach and a good guy,but there was no excuse for Dallas' effort in Game 1,none,never will be.

point is

point is

moreover i shoulda stated, "grueling" pyschologiclly for a team that was SUPPOSED TO win and was on verge of doin it easily then it went haywire and were blown a couple times ... so when you go thru all that and win a hard fought 7th game, I think most human beings will have a down cycle, I have seen it many many times in my life ... and Mavs were blitzed early by Sac and were like 3-9 vs them over last 2 years and Im sure they packed it in, but as they went into game their minds werent gonna trigger a W ... everyone wrote them off, scoffed, and I dont see those people saying much now--and im not saying I was on the sagacious side of it, just pointing out how people generalize so quickly

One year a team i coached lost opening game of year by 15 at our place, 28 games later, we played same team for state title, they were undefeated--ranked high in nation, and we managed to upset them--were we better? prob not, but that nite we were ...

Nc st and Nova won NCAA crowns as DD dogs (I think Uconn too) things happen in sports, hundreds of thousands of games are played, and some nites people just wont respond like you have seen them or expect them to ...

I think i responded mostly to your post b/c you asked for some input and only offered a "Bogus" summation ... so i spent some time trying to tell ya some things that I have seen thru my years as, player, coach, ref, gambler ...
