divert their attention to something else. if you have a treat ball or a kong you can put stuff in to keep them busy and occupied would be my suggestion.

I've given her three slices of cheese and she's still panting non stop. i'm tired and going to bed. I don't care if she shits in the house, the kids have finally gotten to sleep with their doors shut which usually doesn't happen. It's like having a kid all over again!

Your dogs are just suffering from nervous anxiety due to the storm. Anything can upset a dog's environment and cause anxiety which will make it pant.

Some easy and natural things you can do is soak a dog biscuit in Chamomile tea and give them that. It will calm the dog, reduce anxiety and may help little Fido sleep.
Lemon Balm is also a good natural relaxer.

If the dog is severely stressful and needs a sedative as well as anxiety relief than I would recommend an herbal solution such as Lemon Balm or Skullcap.

Bach flower treatment is highly popular right now but so is eating flowers in our salads so take that for what it is worth. Meaning all of the above are certainly easy and safe solutions, some are just more viable than the others.

I have actually heard that the thundershirts can be effective as well.

Hope that helps,
FDC

Dryer softener sheets?

Help reduce the possibility that static electricity is an issue by rubbing a dryer sheet, such as ?Bounce? lightly over your dog. Be sure to purchase the unscented variety. It is helpful to rub this on yourself as well, so you do not accidentally shock your dog when you touch him on a stormy day. Don't wait until the middle of a storm to use this tip, simply rub the dryer sheet lightly over your dog's fur every morning during thunderstorm season.
