Gotta start one.......Martin home vs Carolina and Sproles home vs Skins. I am VERY high on Doug Martin, but just don't know what he brings to the table yet. Just don't want to miss a break out game if he has one.......I also think Sproles will be very involved as well.

Sproles is a ppr machine at times, not always. He is also in a very crowded backfield. Not saying Sproles isn't a good back but Martin has no company in his backfield and takes ALL goal line carries. Sproles does not. Touchdowns score six a reception is only one. Martin is the better choice in my opinion. He will have 4-5 receptions out of the backfield simply due to the new offensive coordinator and the preclusion of the screen play that Tampa Bay has shown over the last few years. Legarrette Blount had a total of 3 receptions in 2010 and was their leading rusher. He was under 15 total last year I believe as well, so the screen and a ball catching receiver is a whole new wrinkle for this team that is playing a team that has difficulty covering backs out of the backfield and tight ends.

Keep in mind that they are playing in New Orleans, that means the Saints will blitz more than 60% of the time as they have done for the last four years at home and only just over 40% on the road. Blitzes get you pitches, and screens but that doesn't rhyme.

Hope this helps,
FDC

Did I read where Blunt might be the goal line back or was I drunk that day?

That was what many were thinking earlier in preseason however, since Blount did nothing to dis-spell the notion that he fumbles too much, it was announced that Doug Martin would be taking all goal line carries.

Hope that helps,

Like I said, I like the Martin play better. It was pretty much six of one half a dozen of the other though.

I wold still play Martin over Sproles all day. Without the TD Sproles gets you 9 points. That is my opinion and not necessarily correct, but it works for me....lol.

Yes...I started Martin. Thinking about it again this week though.....I really like Sproles vs Carolina! Plus in this league we get return yard points. Martin goes up against NYG on the road. I like Martin too, but this matchup may favor Sproles a little more. What you think????

I can really see your line of thinking and would be very tempted to do the same. Return yardage is something different altogether, never heard of that from a running back. Here is how I see it.

New Orleans depth chart reads like this
P. Thomas, D. Sproles, M. Ingram, C. Ivory and on and on.

TB depth chart reads like this
D. Martin.......................................................................Legarrette Blount.

If Martin doesn't get two runs called back by penalties he goes over a hundred yards with twice the carries of Sproles and only one or two less receptions. Never sit your studs and Martin would not leave my lineup. Did you see how Murray ran right through the Giants lineup? They don't play the run, they rush the passer every play. In my opinion, NYG D-lineman are forced to forgo the run defense in order to register sacks. When you play in NY nobody loves the run stuffer. They love the sacks and the Tucks, and Pierre Pauls, and players that get upfield quick. I think Martin runs all over the Giants.

Carolina has a better defense and a better run defense. Not saying Sproles won't get you some points, but a breakout game for him will be in the shape of catches not rushing and you won't get the yardage bonuses and TDs that you get from Martin.

Again, Martin would be in my lineup every week over a ton of RBs in this league that others love, like Matt Forte(gives up his TDs to Bush) Sproles,
Donald Brown, J. Charles, Benson, Turner etc....

Hope that helps,
FDC

Thank you very much fellas!!!! Yeah....Sproles is projected to get 38 pts compared to Martin's 24 this week......still deciding what to do.

Right and Aaron Rodgers was expected to outscore Matt Ryan last week as well as Vick, Brees, Brady, Manning and Manning, and none of them even outscored Cutler let alone Ryan so my first reaction when Old School posted the depth chart is that NO carries SIX RBs!!!!! That is a great post so now I know to NEVER trade for Sproles. I like backs that get touches in both the running game and the passing game and get me bonus points.

I imagine the fact that the Saints are predicted to play well this season and people still believe that, led to the overinflated prediction. No way Sproles goes over 25 this week and you can mark it down that I said it. I don't think they will even make the playoffs or win 9 games. They are a team in transition with too much talent and not enough leadership.

My play is still Martin and if it were me I would trade one or the other to remove the question and shore up a need on my team. This will torture you all year until one or the other either rises above or gets hurt.

There is absolutely ZERO CHANCE SPROLES GETS 38 points. ZERO. That means he has to outscore Julio Jones from last week and that means 120 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Do you know when the last time Sproles went over 100 yards receiving and two tds?!! That still would only be 31-33 points at best, so you are projecting 3 TDs? He hasn't scored three tds in a single game in his life except possibly once in that big playoff game and I am not even sure about that?? Lance Moore had a huge day last week in a loss from the Saints. Brees will look to get Colston on track and get a win this week against a weak team that they are going to have far more trouble with than anyone thinks.

The Saints are not an elite team anymore, period. I watched them play, they have a horrible defense, lousy special teams and ZERO running game.

Just because it is on NFL.com doesn't make it correct brother.

Martin all day.

Also keep in mind this a better Carolina team and a worse NO team that played each other twice last year with Sproles garnering a TOTAL OF 21 POINTS IN TWO GAMES against last year when they actually were good. So now he is suddenly going to quadruple his output? Not a chance. Keep in mind Hudson you are talking about a somewhat aging, small back that is not an every down back. I don't get what all the hype is about with this guy. Everyone just seems to overplay the Saints I guess. Look at Brees, he won't perform even close to his predictions this year. That's another one you can take to the bank. I don't think anyone has any idea how much Sean Payton means to this team on game day. It astounds me that I must be the only one that saw how bad they were last week and all preseason.

Sproles is projected at 22..nowhere does it say 38 points in REGULAR OLDE PPR SCORING..

38 POINTS with return yardage..hell who knows ..have no clue what numbers and or criteria are used in the scoring system..

and Sproles was a MONSTER PPR scorer this past season..and a top 10 RB in PPR in every cheatsheet I found prior to this seasons draft..will be fall apart. .will Saints falter:shrug:

are the Saints worse off. .one game doesn't tell me that..:0corn and win's and loses don't mean a thing[as you know FDC]..

and if they do suck then they will throw even more and Sproles has been A fav target since he arrived.

9 TD's and targeted 111 times w/86 catches in 2011 and he sits....:mj07:

Martin may be the cat pajamas but he doesn't merit the start of Sproles at this point in the season IN MY HUMBLE OPINION..

which is all it can be because the only difinitive facts indicate that he is the proper starter

of course we will add up the points for these 2 particular running backs after week number 2 and re-evaluate their ranking.

He doesn't run the ball enough for me. Yes the receptions are nice, however, 4 receptions a game translates to 64 receptions a year. Not out of reach for Martin and the extra yardage he will rush for will more than make up for it. You are looking at around 600 yards of offense difference. Just sayin............although it is a good argument for Sproles I would use him as a flex not my starter.
