Just got back from 2 week trip painting, general fix-up, and remodel of my newly purchased vegas condo.
It is gated and guarded in the meadows area of Decatur Rd.
It is a 55+ community, no kids, no noise, no maintenance...the tiled roof is also covered for replacement costs.
HOA fees are about 2 bills a month.
I found out my condo was owned by a crazy 93 year old who answered the door nude most of the time.
Her name was Tony Brown.
I am told by her nephew whom lives next door that she homesteaded near Vegas, lived in a tent, and was granted 5 acres in the late 1940's.
She was given a reverse mortgage on the condo by wells fargo bank for $235,000 and blew it all on Casinos and caring for her 2 Pomeranian dogs.
I purchased it for about a third of the price.
It needed interior paint, some plumbing and air conditioner work.
I am 6 minutes from Downtown casinos and 12 minutes from Strip.
I was impressed with the multitude of good inexpensive eateries in the area, all locals.
Blueberry Hill, was my personal favorite.
I checked out non-mainstream casinos and fell in love with Jerry's Nugget...about 10 minutes away
local casino, family owned built 1964, 1821 LasVegasBlvd North.
Middle of nothing, north? of downtown, near Satin Saddle and Palomino strip clubs.
Seemed like every local old time football better was here in the cigar smoked sports book.
They offer a little more than the norm on all parlays and had lower limit craps and single deck blackjack.
The video poker odds were higher than I had seen anywhere, and the machines seemed loose to me.
The food was great, they have an all the time 8 ounce NY strip, spud and salad for $7.85
I noticed 2 security guards patrolling the parking lot, a short distance away neighborhoods looked pretty seedy.
Lots of good stories but here is my favorite...away from the strip there is a lot of pan-handlers, grifters, street people.
We were driving home from the Orleans (about 10pm Friday nite) and stopped at a traffic lite at Decatur and Flamingo I think. There was a Terribles gas station on the corner.
Anyhow I notice a really dirty street person male, late 40's, long hair, bearded, just suddenly drop his pants and take a dump in the well lit corner of the Terribles parking lot, wipe his butt with a napkin, and continue his journey.
I figure Terribles booted him out when he asked to use their toilet.
My brother-in-law reached for his cell phone camera, but had forgotten it....he said it was "You Tube Gold"
My wife and I plan on using it as a winter get away, guys WSOP hangout....one of my new neighbors is from Montana...he escapes the icebergs every year.
