Basketball: Dukes losing another player, possibly two

Thursday, May 11, 2006
By Phil Axelrod, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Brian Kelly, a 6-foot-7 redshirt freshman who averaged 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds, is the third player from a 3-24 team last season to ask for his release since Ron Everhart replaced Danny Nee as Duquesne University's men's coach two months ago.

Sean McKeon, a 6-10 redshirt sophomore who averaged 3.9 points and 2.2 rebounds, is in the process of asking for his release and soon will become the fourth.

Chauncey Duke, a 6-6 sophomore who averaged 8.8 points, already has received a release and is filing the paperwork to transfer to Kentucky Wesleyan, an NCAA Division II school where he could play immediately in 2005-06 with two seasons of eligibility. The other player with a release is 6-10 freshman Ronnie Thomas.

Everhart said he hasn't granted a release to Hernol Hall, a highly touted 6-10 junior-college transfer who signed in the fall. Duquesne has given releases to two other recruits -- 6-6 Antonio DeMaria of Bishop Canevin and 6-3 Steve McNees of Shenango. McNees has signed with Akron.

Looking forward to seeing McNees in a Zip uniform. I have read a lot of good things about him. He looks like a hard nosed kid who can run the point well.
