Placed a bet earlier on Brown+1, just looked and now they are -1.5. Apparently other people are thinking the same as me, anyone else have thoughts?

SYRACUSE ? It?s an hour before UAlbany and Brown play at the Carrier Dome in the first round of the NIT season Tip-Off. Capacity for basketball at the Dome is 33,000. Right now, there is plenty of staff here. But, no fans.

And, of course, that is to be expected. Syracuse plays Manhattan tonight at 7 in the second game of the doubleheader and people will come.

The Great Danes will not only have to beat Brown, they will have to play through an empty Dome.

?There is going to be no one in the building,? UAlbany coach Will Brown said. ?I imagine it will be empty. We just have to create our own energy.?

Sophomore center John Puk, who did not practice Saturday or Sunday, is in uniform and is expected to start. He has been battling swelling in his left leg.

Here are the expected starting lineups:

BROWN (1-0)

F-Tyler Ponticelli, Jr, 6-7, 220

F-Andrew McCarthy, Jr, 6-8, 210

G-Sean McGonagill, So., 6-1, 180

G-Matt Sullivan, Jr., 6-6, 205

G-Jean Harris, Sr., 6-2, 185

UALBANY (0-1)

F-Luke Devlin, So, 6-8, 230

C-John Puk, So, 6-10, 265

G-Logan Aronhalt, Jr., 6-3, 210

G-Mike Black, Jr., 6-0, 175

G-Gerardo Suero, Jr., 6-4, 205

Injuries have hit the Great Danes already

PITTSBURGH ? Will Brown is Bill Murray from ?Groundhog Day.? But he isn?t reliving yesterday today. It?s more like last year.

Brown, the UAlbany basketball coach, thought the season of injury was behind him. Last year, there were times when he didn?t know if he would have enough healthy bodies to get through a practice.

Now, after just one game, he might be thinking that again. After the Danes got whacked 89-56 by Pittsburgh Friday night, Brown was shaking his head as he went over the injury report.

He knew that it was going to take some time for sophomore Luke Devlin to come back to playing shape following off season back surgery. Devlin played 26 minutes, but only took three shots and had two points against Pitt.

And, of the walking wounded, he is the best off. Brown said that freshman Peter Hooley injured an ankle against Pitt and he doesn?t know how serious that might be.

The biggest problem is with the biggest player. John Puk, the Danes? 6-foot-10, 265-pound sophomore center, is questionable for UAlbany?s game against Brown Monday afternoon at 4 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

Puk, who was bothered all last year with a nagging Achilles issue in his right Achilles, now has a problem with his left leg. Brown said he has cellulitis, an inflammation of connective tissue in his shin. It is bothering the circulation and, Puk is being treated with what Brown called ?heavy antibiotics.?

?It swelled up like you would not believe,? Brown said after the Pitt game. ?We didn?t even know if he was going to be able to play.?

Puk played 13 minutes Friday (10 in the first half) and had one rebound and no points. Brown said the big man will not practice on Saturday and Sunday and he has no idea what will happen Monday.

The only bright spot, if there is one, is that the injury is an infection, one that can be treated.

?I?m glad it?s nothing sprained, torn or broken,? Brown said. ?Yes, I am worried about it. Puk and Devlin anchor our defense. We need those guys to help us on defense. I mean, Puk just being in there ? Pitt had five guys Puk?s size. Teams in our league don?t have anyone Puk?s size.?
