Not going to the track today so will give a little bit of an update while I can if any cares. Honda looks like the engine package to beat this month at the tracks so far, with toyota not far behind and once again chevy looks like it is behind the 8 ball. Penske has not flexed his muscle so far but expect him to do so late Friday or during the practice session on Saturday before qualifying. Fastest lap so far was set early today by Tony Kanaan 222+. Track conditions are not anywhere near where they normally are this time of the month as we are seeing above normal temps here in Indy during may so far. Nearly 10+ degrees which makes a big difference on these cars. Satruday it is expected to be in the low 70's which should see and increase in speed but how much is a mystery to most in the garage area. Some predict a 225 pole speed but I just can't see it. Chevy and Toyota have qualifying packages coming for saturday but I think it maybe a little to late in the game for some. This is not nascar. These guys need time to adapt to changes at this track or it will be a nice smack into the wall.

In case anyone cares the IRL adopted new changes this year to engine size and aero packages, In order to slow the cars down. If these changes where not made we may have seen the track record broke with speed in excess of 238+ this month. The main problem I see here will be the aero package. Downforce has been removed and so drivers are talking about how the car does not stick like it use to and that it want's to drift in the turns which is not good here. I see no problems when alone on the track but come race day we may see several wrecks. We shall see as the month goes along.

Lot of talk about the field not be full with 33 cars. I think we shall see a full field come next weekend with some surprises as to who will be driving. They have enough cars to fill it, the probelm is sponsorship and getting the crews together. It would be sad if this tradition did not continue but the race will go on no matter what.

I live my whole month of may at this track in the garage area or in the stands. I use to be able to get in the pits but with most of the oldtimers gone it is harder to make connections here. It is more of a business now then a sport. May is not the same for sure nor will it ever be like it was 20 years ago. Those where the days for sure.

As far as betting goes for this event I would stay away from hornish and any chevy engine driver unless the new packages make a difference. I had the winner last year with Deferran and I will stay in the Penske camp again this year with Helio Castro Neves at +600. This guy reminds me so much of Rick Mears. His passion and respect for the Speedway. The way he saves his car during the race. He has mastered this track some that few have done. He will be going for his 3rd victory in 4 years something never done here before. But I see him doing it again and climbing the fence. Also will play on Franchitti at +1200 and the field at +2000. The field gives me 12 spots if it is full and like I said before I think we will see some some surprises to get a ride and they will have a very good oppurtunity to win this race.

Will update more if people are interested.

I very interested, I dont do any capping on IRL mainly NASCAR. But I do have a great appreciation for these cars and there drivers. Back in the day before the CART/IRL debacle, it was my fav. racing series.

Well Haven't had much time to write but will update happenings at the track from the weekend. Friday before qualifing was a wash and I was really hoping to see if any of the packages some of the teams recieved would make a difference but with the friday practice session being washed out, it hurt alot of teams.

Qualifying went as expected with Honda dominating the top spots. The big surprise was Rice winning the pole. Very good story on this happening. Penske was kind of a disappointment to some but I still think they have the car to beat. I may have been way off base about a full field but I still think it happens. One move for a ride that looks like it may take place, is Buddy Lazier renting one of the Penske backup cars. If this happens Buddy could be a player. He is a former winner. But money seems to be the problem right now for Buddy. He is having problems getting some sponsorship but I think a deal will be worked out.

As it stands right now we have only 2 cars set to qualify that have not made the field. 26 in already with 7 spots left. There are plenty of drivers walking around looking for rides but at this time money and teams is the issue.Only one day of qualifying left and with the track closed monday and tuesday it is not looking good to get a full field. I am not going to the track today but will be there the rest of the week.

Most teams in the race will be getting ready for race setups, running several laps will full loads and scuffing in sticker tires. So judging by speeds will not be an indication of what to expect come race day. Most will be careful to say the least.

Will update following the weekend after bump day, if you can call it that.

Have to disagree Racin Pub. This is a very good field for the competitive part of it. just because these are not the big names of past does not mean these guys can't drive. I think we will see a very good race come next Sunday. Last years race was one the best ever IMO.

These drivers have my utmost respect. What they do is beyond bravery and skill IMO. And if you think it is not I tell you what they have a 2 seat car here at the track pay the price and go for a ride and you will see what I am talking about. Driving at 180+MPH left me with and impression about these drivers I will never forget as long as I live.

Took off early from the track today it is so freakin hot and humid here in Naptown it is miserable as hell. Being away Wednesday I missed out on some unexpected moves. Buddy Lazier now has a ride it is with Dreyer & Rienbold it is a backup for Giaffone which he crashed a week ago. Chevy power ughhhh. It looks like now that Sam Schmidt will being trying to rent the penske car as a team owner. As of today it is looking better for a full field for the race will know more tomorrow as these guys will need to practice. Drivers who are still looking for rides. Jaques Lazier,Richie Hearn,Roberto Moreno,Max Papis,Memo Gidley,Jimmy Kite and Robby McGehee. There are several teams looking at the possibility of adding another car. Possibly Newman Haas Racing or Fernandez Racing. The key to this will be Access Motorsports. It looks as if they will not compete thus freeing up 4 engines from Greg Rays team which could be used by Haas and Team Fernandez. Things look more better today than earlier last weekend so lets hope we get a full field.

By the way when I had left Lazier was around 215+ for his first few trips around.

Will update after weekend of all happenings around the track.

Update carb day not really any thing unexpected with the drivers and cars, most just shook down the chassis and race engines. No incidents occured so the field is full and ready to fly.

Most probably think this is a terrible field for this race but I will strongly disagree. I see as many as 20 drivers having a shot at this race. Even a chevy might creep into the win. You must remember this is 500 miles and qualifying and race are 2 very different monster. But with that being said Honda is clearly the engine to beat. I am very interested to see how these cars react in traffic come Sunday. I said earlier we may see some cars slamming the wall and I still think this will be a wreck filled race. Not because of the drivers but because of the new aero package. Drivers are all complaining about how there is no grip in the turns. On several occasions during practice you could notice cars sliding in turn 1 more then I can ever remember. So betting this race may be like russian roulette but my wagers are placed and I still like the value I am getting.

If you have never attended the race I suggest it to be one the things you do in your lifetime it is a great experience for sure. It is not the party it used to be but the ceremonies before the race, the parade laps and the start are one the greatest events in motor racing.

GL TO ALL AND GODS SPEED TO ALL THE DRIVERS FOR A SAFE AND GREAT RACE!!!!!!!!

Race Day is here!! Taking a little on Castroneves at +450, just
for a little action. Hope you guys have a great time at the race.
Have been to 5 Indys with my dad growing up, but that was 25+
years ago. Get up early, park downtown at the railroad station and bus out to the track! That was a big day for me as a youngster. Still have a great picture of myself at 7 with Parnelli Jones in front of his car #98, see his son is starting in the last row
in #98 this year. Have fun guys!!!
