China's Planning Min Zeng Expects 1st Quarter GDP Growth Of 7%
BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- China's State Development Planning Minister Zeng Peiyan said Thursday he expects national GDP to grow 7% year-on-year in first quarter 2002.
"The overall situation is actually better than we expected," said Zeng, referring to economic indicators in the first two months of this year.
"We expect economic growth in the first quarter of this year will reach 7%."
Speaking at a news conference, Zeng said if China achieves that result in first quarter 2002, it should be able to achieve its full-year target of around 7% growth in GDP.
