In Swarthmore PA. at the local diner with all Eagle and Phillie fans having breakfast Every year I come up to visit my daughter and family in Swarthmore, I have 2 grandchildren that are Phillie fans like their grandpa but also Eagle fans who I hate because I'm a NY Giant fan. As soon as I walk in the diner for breakfast I am greeted with " look who came back from Texas". Its 4 older guys and they remember me from the past few years > One of them says " his daughter teaches here in Swarthmore and grandpa visits, They also throw some " zingers" at me saying " thanks for Barkley the ex Ny Giant running back who is the MVP of the Philly Eagles. I laugh and say the Giants didn't want to pay him so he signed with " you guys" They ask me to sit with them at their table and offer to buy me breakfast . I sit at an empty table next to them . I asked them if they knew what Deja view " is" . I explained to them that it was one year ago same month and possibly same day I sat here with you guys . Think the subject was politics but once I enter the diner it turns to Eagle and Philly baseball They know I'm a Phillie fan but also a NY Giant football fan. They make fun of me but all have big time respect because of my knowledge of sports. I refuse to let them pay for my breakfast and tell them I will see them next year . One of them says to me as I was leaving " do you still carry that Richie Allen baseball card in your wallet I anwer " yes I do " They all laugh I go up to the cashier to pay for my eggs and home fries and the lady says " its already been paid" I go back to thank them and they are all laughing and having a blast at the table . A bunch of old guys just having a good time at breakfast talking sports. One of them knows my daughter who teaches at the local elementary school As I drove off I thought how great it is that these guys eat every morning and talk sports or what ever. I realize its something that is something someday will be a past art Although we are mortal enemies in sport we are all humans with respect and can share our stories. Not sure if the younger generation can do that, Peace
