was on pennsylvania turnpike couple weeks ago
correct me if my assumptions are wrong
i assume the turnpike is privately owned, thats why we are charged tolls
i assume the taxes (fed & state) we pay on gas is to maintain & build new roads

my question is why do we pay taxes on gas when bought on a toll road?

Back in the 50's, states had the option to have toll roads, or get federal funding for highways.

If your state has tolls......they don't get the federal funds that other states get to maintain roadways.

What is really sad is that most of the new toll roads I see going in are owned by non American companies. Our country's infrastructure is literally being taken over.
