What are your thoughts on purchasing an extended warranty for a laptop/notebook computer? Consumer's report mentions that many laptops have a significant failure rate/problems. Appreciate your input in advance.

I never get extended warrantys, but I did get a 3 year one on the laptop I am typing on and it paid for itself. At Best Buy that warranty comes with a replacement battery, so when the 3 years are almost up you go back and get a new battery, that alone almost worth the price.

Just got my daughter a new laptop for Christmas and got her the 3 year warranty...

I got it on the lap top. as well as my shredder! (I put everything through it!)

TV's, I got it on my most expensive one, didn't need it. But on high end stuff, I tend to do it!

Just got a digital camcorder as well, and put it on there also. 3 years. With Best Buy, it covers supposedly anything, drop it etc. So knowing me, that is a definite for me.
