Way to much freaking time on their hands for sure. Don't know how I feel about this taunting penalty as well. The first TD that is wiped off the board man do I feel for that kid.

THE REFS ALRREADY HAVE TO MUCH GAME CHANGING AUTHORITY IMHO!

Its unbelievable that after all the controversy and people who wanted to abolish the celebrtion stuff they ratchet it up further with the taunting thing. Think about an SEC game being changed by a ref cause a kid high steps it into the end zone. :nono:

I agree 100% with both of you. Mack Brown voiced his concern about how this rule will be applied. If I'm right I don't think this rule is effective until 2011. The eyeblack/message rule is in effect this season.

I don't know how you can universally enforce a rule like this. I remember when the Washington QB was called for an unsportsmanlike penalty a few seasons ago after scoring a TD with a few seconds left on the clock. Football is an emotional game and I don't think you can expect them to keep their emotions in check especially if they make a huge game changing play. I think back to last year's National Championship game and Marcel Dareus' pick-6 prior to halftime. He was flagged for throwing the ball out of the endzone after scoring. The 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty was flagged on the ensuing kickoff meaning 'Bama had to kick from the 20 yard line. Now, with this new rule I don't know how it would have been enforced. My understanding is that the play is blown dead from where the "penalty" occurred and a 15 yard penalty is enforced and if a TD is scored it's wiped off. In my opinion taunting and unsportsmanlike conduct are not too difficult to judge. It's like last year's UGA/LSU game. Emotion plays a big part of this game and I don't think that penalty should have been called. It boils down to the refs OPINION and that can be very sketchy at best.

I am fine with the eye black rule since it does not affect play, but the taunting rule is outrageous. As indicated by many of you, the excessive celebration rule was bad enough, but to allow refs to take points off the board for high-stepping is another step towards the ruination of college football.

The ending of the UGA/LSU game last season was disgraceful. Let's see how much worse it can get.

The weird thing about this is that its hard to find anyone who wants this garbage. Remember Billy White Shoes Johnshon or the Fun Bunch or the Ickie Shuffle? How did that stuff hurt football. When you get in the end zone you should be able to do what you want as long as you don't Taunt. Who wouldn't want to spike the shit out of the ball if they scored a TD in a college football game.
