I watched the Falcons game last night. Well I watched most of it until it got into the lasts half, then I checked in on it.

The fact is if Ryan goes down with injury we here in Atlanta know the Falcons are toast. They have no back up QB in the wings. I wanted them to get Tebow when he was easily available but the owners here do not believe in stirring the pot.

So here comes Steve Jackson. He ran like a horse five or six time for a total of 8 yds. In fairness the Falcons right offensive tackle Johnson is out with a injury and that may have hurt overall. But Cinn was tackling him very easily and pushing him out of bounds. He did not display any bruising ability to me and that does not bode well for the running game.
I hope he aint lost a step but it looks like it.

Then Jaquizz Rogers comes in and gets bounced around as usual. This guy just aint big enough to carry the load. He is not the fastest but he will make some good plays. I saw one play where Rogers was wide open and Ryan failed to get him the ball in the open field. Oh well.

Why didn't they run left then ? Easy answer is the Falcons left side offensive line sucks.

So what to do. Ryan is going to have to pass again like he did last year. Pass a lot. Especially if the running situation is stagnant again. I was against
bringing in Jackson but he is here so what the hey.

Roddy White looks overweight to me. I know he will get his but he is on the downside now. Julio Jones is going to have to be a beast this year for the Falcons to be better than average. Harry Douglas made some good catchs. They are using him in the punt returns and I don't know why you take a chance on him getting hurt doing that. Put one of the sure handed young guys back there and just go with it.

The Falcons defense was bad. Once again they cant stop the run for shit. The guy from the Giants is not going to solve the defensive end problems. And with little or no rush putting hands on Cinn Dalton, he sat back there untouched most of the time.

uh oh

The new corners Alford and Trufant played well and I hope they can be good. The linebackers played OK but they left a lot to be desired.

It is the first game and no one cares. At least they got out of it injury free.

Will have to see what develops now as the games get more serious next week on Thursday night at the Ravens. Hope Flacco is ready as Ryan gets paid more so he should step up and show the Flacco a thing or two about the passing game.

Reporting from Atlanta - All the best to you and yours.

nice write up

i think saints -3 week 1 is gonna be a solid bet.

the Saints are pissed about last year with the suspensions and all that.

Brees has taken a beating on the year he had.

Its going to be very hard for the Falcons to win that game.

I usually do not wager until the first few games go by so I can watch the full squad play.

Here are the Falcons? grades for the sluggish 34-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday at the Georgia Dome.

GAME BALL: Undrafted rookie linebacker Paul Worrilow had 11 tackles and a special teams tackle.

D ? Quarterbacks: Matt Ryan, Dominique Davis and Sean Renfree were collectively 16 of 32 for 187 yards passing with one touchdown and a really bad interception by Davis. The quarterback rating for the group was 65.5.

D ? Running backs: Steven Jackson has amassed more than 10,000 yards running behind decent to poor offensive lines in St. Louis. He only had 8 yards on five carries as he didn?t have much room to run. Ronnie Wingo and Jason Snelling had runs of 12 yards. The group rushed 22 times for 75 yards (3.4 yards per carry),

C -- Wide receivers: Harry Douglas and Drew Davis had the only gains of 20 yards or more.

D -- Offensive Line: The Falcons tried to the run the ball on third-and-2 and were stuffed. The play of the tackles had the scribes in the pressbox openly wondering if the Falcons should have retained right tackle Tyson Clabo. The unit would have received an F, but they kept Matt Ryan alive.

D -- Defensive line: Osi Umenyiora looked comfortable moving around from the right to left end. Jonathan Massaquoi had a sack and two quarterback hits. Stansly Maponga had the only other quarterback hit. The Bengals running backs rushed 38 times 167 yards (4.39 per carry) and one touchdown.

C -- Linebackers: Paul Worrilow, who was a walk-on at Delaware, led the way with 11 tackles. He was a force. Pat Schiller also had a strong game with five tackles. Brian Banks made his NFL debut and recorded two tackles.

C -- Defensive backs: Rookie cornerbacks Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford held up well. Robert McClain had a 31-yard pass interference penalty. Cincinnati?s Josh Johnson tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Tate in between McClain and safety Charles Mitchell. Safety Zeke Motta finished with three tackles. The backups also gave up a 36-yard touchdown pass to Dane Sanzenbacher.

C -- Special teams: The punt coverage unit allowed Sanzenbacher a 71-yard touchdown return. Harry Douglas had a strong 11-yard return. Matt Bryant made a 37-yard field goal and punter Matt Bosher had great hang-time on his punts. He boomed a 59-yarder on his first punt. His second punt was a flopper, designed to go high and land inside the 20. It went 35 yards as he got 4.7 seconds of hang-time causing Cincinnati?s Brandon Tate to make a fair catch.

F -- Coaches: It?s only the exhibition season, but other than Paul Worrilow, the reserves were not ready to play.

..................................................................

this about sums it up

boy they took no hold backs in grading that game

Musings - Falcons 2013 Season

Matt Ryan has an elite 150 million dollar contract as we all know!

When the game is on the line why is Matt Ryan not trusted to call the best play at the line of scrimmage based on the defense of the opposing team?

Yesterday against the Panthers during the last offensive drive as the play clock was running down with no time outs, Matt Ryan turned to the sidelines and gave the signal to the bench to get the plays in to him faster.

The Falcons front office mortgaged the team in order to pay for a Game Manger like Trent Dilfer

that's pathetic

The Bottom line is that Matt Ryan is paid like an elite QB but the organization does not trust his judgement and thus micromanages him like a Rookie.

Only under this Falcons Mgt has this happened thru many years of NFL

And as for leadership , I have to wonder about Ryan .N

Not once did he loose his temper after getting pummeled repeatedly with 10+ sacks.
I would have had to grab at least one of his linemen's facemask and ask him why are you out here!!!!

It is sad but Ryan has very limited mobility. Flushed out of the pocket?

Ryan never leaves it ! He takes camping gear in there with him and cooks marshmellows.

Look at the prototype quarterbacks in the NFL game today...mobile in addition to leadership, a strong arm, and brains. They run when flushed and make plays when they have to.

Roddy White's days should be limited...with what, at least 4 drops yesterday. Open. In his hands. but.
bang boom on the ground the ball goes.

RoadScholar, the great Steve Young said about Matt Ryan during one of his broadcasts,

in order for Matt Ryan to raise his level of play that he needs to be more agrressive and take more chances with down field throws. My question is who is correct with regard to game changing QB play Steve Young ( Hall of Fame QB) Matt Ryan, Mike Smith, or Dirk Koetter ?

Nolan was just re-signed for two more years as defense coach.

Well I hope the (2) rookie CBs can produce, because Eddie Lacy was there for us, and now we are stuck with Jackson at RB. Its always the same, Jackson knows its his last chance to show the Falcons what he can do so he wont get cut.
Where was he all year. Saying this is what the Falcons brought him in for is a waste of breath.

He will fool mgt on this and they are just stupid again and again. Get rid of Jackson ASAP

Bring in a rookie in the 6th round to replace his tired ass.

what a season of downs.
