Not sure if this has been posted before, but if it has it should be brought to top occasionally anyway. Put in your address and it shows registered sex offenders in your area. It's sad how many "dots" pop up on our neighborhoods.

Wow, if you click on the dot it will make the picture of the person pop up. I like that, now I know who to be watching for.

Question about this... do people who are convicted of consensual statuatory rape have to register, or does that vary by state?

I only ask because I have several dots in my area, and many are of the "assault of a child" variety. I wouldn't feel too safe around someone that, say, mugged a woman and put a knife to her throat and physically forced her to have sex with him. But if it's someone who, at 19, had consensual sex with a 16-year old they dated in high school, that's different.

Varies by state. I know in California the website that has this information has the severity of the infraction listed. If you click on the dot, you can see exactly how bad they are.

But I tend to agree that we have cracked down so hard, problems arise. Some new laws in California mean you can never live within a certain distance (2000ft) or something of a school if you have been convicted of a sex crime. Problem is, in some places, like San Francisco, you are always within 2000ft of a school. Where can you live?

There needs to be a reasonable plan to deal with people like this when they get out of jail.
