FANTASY FOOTBALL: Cowboys to ride Barber vs. Giants

It might not be Tony Romo's time to shine when the Dallas Cowboys visit the New York Giants on Sunday.

The Giants have had 10 days to prepare their No. 4-ranked pass defense for Romo. The last time these teams met in Week 2, it was Dallas' rushing attack that did the most damage, gaining 251 yards in a game won by the Giants, 33-31.

Eli Manning had a spectacular game, passing for 330 yards as Steve Smith and Mario Manningham emerged as go-to receivers.

Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce is out for the season, and that should be good news for running back Marion Barber. The Cowboys have kept Barber fresh for the December run, a time when Dallas and coach Wade Phillips have typically faltered.

Look for Barber to have his best game since that Week 2 encounter, and expect Manning to produce one of his better efforts in a must-win game for New York.

The New Orleans Saints come off their big Monday night win against New England and now face the Washington Redskins in what could be a huge letdown spot. Between the short week and the Redskins' 3-8 record, there is a good chance the Saints could take the game lightly.

Washington has the NFL's top pass defense, led by a great secondary, and will take aim at slowing Drew Brees and a great passing offense. The Redskins won't stop the Saints, but they should contain them.

Saints wideout Robert Meachem, who has scored in four straight games, somehow is still available in most leagues.

DeSean Jackson is likely to be out for Philadelphia at Atlanta, meaning Jason Avant will see many more passes thrown his way from Donovan McNabb.

In his past three games, even with Jackson in the lineup, Avant has 273 yards with a touchdown. Look for the Eagles to thrive against the Falcons' No. 27-ranked defense, which should please fantasy owners of Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek, McNabb and Avant.

Owners of Carolina running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart get a break this week with quarterback Jake Delhomme injured. The move to Matt Moore will undoubtedly force the Panthers to go with their bread and butter: running the ball.

Delhomme knows plenty about throwing interceptions, but no one has done it better (or worse) than the Chicago Bears' Jay Cutler, who has tossed a league-high 20 picks.

But Cutler should enjoy one of his better games of the season as the Bears face the Rams. Look for Cutler's red-zone mistakes to be limited as he finds Devin Hester, Johnny Knox and Greg Olsen often.

Count on Cincinnati's Carson Palmer having a big week against the Lions, who have allowed four straight 300-yard passers.

Denver rookie Knowshon Moreno is starting to evolve into the every-down back that many fantasy owners thought he would become. He has run for at least 80 yards in each of the Broncos' past three games. He has a favorable matchup this week against Kansas City, which features another good back in Jamaal Charles, who is still widely available.

Week 13 Start Them - Sit Them

- Every week, usually on Friday, we will put together our "start them - sit them" list. Obviously, if Maurice Jones-Drew, Adrian Peterson and Tom Brady aren't walking on crutches you are going to start them. This list is aimed at the borderline "start-or-sit" players.

Also remember it's getting late in the season and weather can be a factor, particularly in the cold and windy northeast. Or on a late Monday night in Green Bay.

Philadelphia at Atlanta

Eagles

Start - Donovan McNabb, LeSean McCoy, Jason Avant, Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek, David Akers, Eagles defense

Falcons

Start - Jerious Norwood, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez

Comments - Don't expect DeSean Jackson to play this week, but the Eagles still have plenty of weapons. Third receiver Jason Avant can fill in for Jackson although he doesn't have the big play ability, he could still crack the 100- yard mark. Both Norwood and Jason Snelling will share the Falcon's running opportunities, but Norwood will get the better chances. Quarterback Chris Redman starts for Atlanta which limits White and Gonzalez's top end.

Tampa Bay at Carolina

Buccaneers

Start - Josh Freeman, Cadillac Williams, Kellen Winslow

Panthers

Start - DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Steve Smith, John Kasay

Comments - Williams should play, but could be sidelined at any point, so he's a gamble. Stewart will likely have the better statistics by day's end. It's Matt Moore-to-Steve Smith this week but could that be any worse than Delhomme-to- Smith these past few weeks?

St. Louis at Chicago

Rams

Start - Steven Jackson

Bears

Start - Jay Cutler, Matt Forte, Devin Hester, Greg Olsen, Robbie Gould, Bears defense

Comments - Jackson missed practice last week too and still played well. Expect the same this week. The Ram's defense is ranked 28th against the run, might Forte finally play up to his ability? Even Cutler could have a good day.

Detroit at Cincinnati

Lions

Start - Matthew Stafford, Kevin Smith, Calvin Johnson

Bengals

Start - Carson Palmer, Cedric Benson, Chad Ochocinco

Comments - The Bengals are No.3 against the run, but Kevin Smith will catch enough balls to have a solid day. Benson should be back, check here Sunday morning to verify, and against the Lions is good for 100 yards and a score. Ochocinco has been "MIA" for the last five weeks (including a bye week), but this might finally be the week he gets something done.

Tennessee at Indianapolis

Titans

Start - Vince Young, Chris Johnson, Kenny Britt, Rob Bironas

Colts

Start - Peyton Manning, Joseph Addai, Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, Matt Stover

Comments - The young Titans are full of confidence and are performing well for your fantasy team. Johnson will get his yards, but the Young-to-Britt combination will be tested by the 11-0 Colts if Dwight Freeney plays. If Freeney sits, play Young and Britt.

Houston at Jacksonville

Texans

Start - Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter

Jaguars

Start - Maurice Jones-Drew, Mike Sims-Walker, Josh Scobee

Comments - Steve Slaton won the starting spot back, but he's splitting time with Chris Brown making both players "un-startable." Schaub continues to be one of the best values at quarterback this season - he's thrown for two-or-more TDs in seven of 11 games and over 300 yards six times. Jones-Drew had a rare "off" week and still totaled 110 yards from scrimmage. Sims-Walker also struggled last week.

Denver at Kansas City

Broncos

Start - Kyle Orton, Knowshon Moreno, Brandon Marshall, Matt Prater, Broncos defense

Chiefs

Start - Jamal Charles, Chris Chambers, Ryan Succop

Comments - The Broncos are No.5 in overall defense, but Charles could still get his yards as they are giving up 110 yards-per-game on the ground. The Brandon Marshall-Champ Bailey matchup is worth the price of admission. It's their first meeting this year, but Marshall got the better of him last year getting seven receptions for 77 yards and one score in Week 4 and 11-91-2 in Week 14 last season.

New England at Miami

Patriots

Start - Tom Brady, Laurence Maroney, Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Sam Aiken, Steven Gostkowski

Dolphins

Start - Ricky Williams

Comments - The Patriots are going to take their "New Orleans beat down" out on someone and the most likely candidate in the Miami Dolphins secondary. Williams has been great since Ronnie Brown was injured totaling 360 yards and four scores in the last three weeks.

Oakland at Pittsburgh

Raiders

Start - Justin Fargas, Zach Miller

Steelers

Start - Ben Roethlisberger, Rashard Mendenhall, Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Heath Miller, Jeff Reed, Steelers defense

Comments - Remember the great matchups of Kenny Stabler and Terry Bradshaw? Wide receivers Cliff Branch and Fred Biletnikoff vs. Mel Blount & Co.? Or Lynn Swann and John Stallworth vs. Willie Brown and Jack Tatum? This is NOT one of those games. The Steelers are in a must win situation and the Oakland Raiders have very little offense/defense with which to fight back. Play every Pittsburgh guy you can, they're going to put up 35 points-or-more.

New Orleans at Washington

Saints

Start - Drew Brees, Pierre Thomas, Marques Colston, Robert Meachem, Devery Henderson, John Carney, Saints defense

Redskins

Start - Rock Cartwright

Comments - Washington owns the No.1 pass defense and the Saints have the No.4 pass offense and are No.1 in overall offense (425.9 ypg) and scoring (407 points). Unfortunately, the Redskins offense is inept and the defense will tire from being on the field too much. New Orleans will be "held" to 28 points and that should still be enough to start all the usual Saints suspects.

San Diego at Cleveland

Chargers

Start - Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson, Vincent Jackson, Antonio Gates, Nate Kaeding, Chargers defense

Browns

Start - none

Comments - If your opponent has Chargers in his lineup, your best hope is to pray for rain, because the Browns defense can't stop anybody.

Dallas at New York Giants

Cowboys

Start - Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Felix Jones, Miles Austin, Jason Witten, Nick Folk

Giants

Start - Eli Manning, Brandon Jacobs, Steve Smith, Mario Manningham, Lawrence Tynes

Comments - The Giants were awful on Thanksgiving night, but have had 10 days to "right the ship." New York beat Dallas 33-31 at Dallas in Week 2, but that seems a lifetime ago. I'm expecting a similar shootout, so don't be afraid to play the borderline starters like Mario Manningham and Felix Jones.

San Francisco at Seattle

49ers

Start - Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, Joe Nedney

Seahawks

Start - Matt Hasselbeck, Justin Forsett, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Nate Burleson, Olindo Mare, Seahawks defense

Comments - Gore has caught TD passes in each of the last two weeks to save what would have been bad weeks rushing the ball (total of 23 carries for 92 yards). Davis has been solid in five of the past six games. Seattle is a Jekyll and Hyde team, usually playing great at home and horrible on the road. If that's the case, start Hasselbeck, Burleson and Houshmandzadeh along with Forsett.

Minnesota at Arizona

Vikings

Start - Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson, Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, Visanthe Shiancoe, Ryan Longwell

Cardinals

Start - Kurt Warner, Tim Hightower, Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, Neil Rackers

Comments - Warner fully participated in Thursday practice, but still might be a Sunday night game-time decision. That leaves you in the cold, if your other choice plays Sunday afternoon. This might be the highest scoring game of the weekend, but Chris "Beanie" Wells won't be involved because the Vikings stop the run very well. However, Hightower will get his points, by catching the ball. If you own any Vikings, you obviously know the Minnesota offense is playing very well and to start them.

Baltimore at Green Bay

Ravens

Start - Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Derrick Mason, Billy Cundiff

Packers

Start - Aaron Rodgers, Ryan Grant, Greg Jennings, Donald Driver

Comments - While the Ravens defense still ranks in the top-10, barely, the Packers at home will get their points. Flacco tossed his first TD pass in four weeks last Sunday against Pittsburgh and has shown signs of returning to early- season form. Beware, as of Friday, the weather forecast says a 40% chance of precipitation and with a high of 31 degrees, that means snow.
