gcs--After reading my post again, I hope I did not sound too harsh. I have a tendency to do that at times. Do you only build Flash websites or do you do the HTML as well. I can give you two examples of our websites over time.
The first,
Micajah, was built for us by narrowing down the field of Flash programmers. The girl that we went with had some good skills, but we never could get the look or feel across on the website. Just as much our fault as hers. Once through the first Flash segment, click on the Custom Development link. Still not what we were going for, but that's the nature of the art, IMO.
So after our failed attempts at getting the right message with a Flash intro, we decided to go with a straight HTML website. Basically, this serves for information purposes only, but that is why we feel a person goes to our site. We have had this website,
bigWebDesk, for about two or three years now. It's easy to update with new features and upgrades, and it is very straight-forward. We depend on search engines and target-market websites to drive traffic to the site. We just hope the information that someone is looking for can be gathered here.
I do not design websites. I do help with the content. I notice spelling errors all of the time on our site, and I think that looks really bad. If I had full control over our site, I would correct these. As of now, it is a process.
Once again, this is just my two cents. You are absolutely correct when you say that the designer must follow the guidelines given by the client. Most of the time that hinders what the designer can do.
Good luck in your development!
