FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS
The first day of spring could look more like a mid-January day as a winter storm is expected to drop up to 6-inches of snow on the Chicago area.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for northern Illinois and northwest Indiana from late Thursday until Friday morning. A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that could impact travel.
The storm is expected to move into the Chicago area Thursday night, and heavy, wet snow is expected to increase early Friday. Total snow accumulation could reach 6-inches, the National Weather Service said.
Temperatures are expected to reach 43-degrees Thursday afternoon, but will fall near 29-degrees Thursday night, when winds will gust up to 15 miles per hour, the National Weather Service said.
