I'm making my first trip to Vegas next weekend and was wondering what the best book was? I just read Nolan Dalla's write-up on Mandalay Bay and it sounds like I should avoid it since I will be a novice myself. Any tips for betting at the windows or do I just basically give them $110 for a $100 college football bet and tell them which team I want? Thanks for any advice.

Just walk right up to the board and find the game you want. They will be numbered like so

101 New England -5
102 Green Bay

Tell them you want "$110 on 101 please"

The guy will punch it in, probably repeat it back to you and then you are on your way. ALWAYS check your ticket before leaving the counter, they are prone to mistakes.

As for favorites, thats a tough one. Even though its a dump, there is something I love about the Luxor. After the poker tournaments at noon, we usually hit the sportsbook there for a few minutes. They still do everything by hand, on huge white boards that slide up and down. Its not glamourous or shiny, but it sure is nice to watch.

Other than that I am partial to watching games at the Bellagio, though Ballys/Paris, Ceasers and Mirage are also haunts of mine. Imperial Palace is a fun place to hang out and drink cheap beers while playing the ponies if you are into that.

The IP and Mirage sportsbooks also have that racing game with the electronic horses that is as addictive as crack.

Hoops are you talking about the one where the horses run around in the glass case? They have one at Ballys and we always play it before breakfast when we stay there. You are right, addictive as crack and fun too

I have to vote for Bellagio. Nice big comfortable chairs. The drinks were coming fast. When I die I have requested that my ashes be put in the ashtrays at Bellagios Sports Book.

Mirage is my "Best Bet"

Comfy chairs

a plethora of Tv's (all same size)

no drink tickets needed for drinks in sportsbook

courteous tellers

California Pizza Kitchen adjacent (try the Philly Steak and Cheese pizza with a caesar salad and tirimisu for dessert--I can taste those sweet bell peppers now)

I have been to all the major sportsbooks in town from Bellagio, Paris, Mandaly Bay (sucks---worst on the list), Hilton, Bally's, MGM, Station Casinos, Green Valley Ranch, etc, and the Mirage is clearly the best for me.
