Hi Boys

how's it going?

For all fellow Canadians on this board if you are looking at starting your RRSP or putting money into the market and wanna go via mutual funds please take a look at this family of funds.

http://www.saxonfunds.com

Had gone to their annual unitholder meeting in downtown Toronto on Tuesday. As always both the fund managers are straight forward in their talk and advice.

Only company I know of where one can talk to the fund managers directly. If you happen to go to the Annual Financial Fourm @ the Metro Convention Centre around RRSP time you will run into these guys there. How many fund managers do you see out there from other fund families? Only sales people giving u their pitch.

Of course just standing there is not enuf . . the returns have to be there also.

Excellent returns on all their funds ..
One of the lowest MER's in Canada
(they have min $5000 but if u go thru a discount broker or start a monthly investing program then this does not matter).

There was an article in the Globe and Mail few months ago on
"Best Fund Families in Canada" and these guys were No 1. Value investing ..

When I went for the unitholder meeting me and my girlfriend stood out in the crowd of around 170 people. I guess the nearest person in age to me was around 20+ years older than me.

Lot of people said they were glad after taking losses from their fund advisors .. they found these guys .. anyways just to let ya guys know of the sentiments of the unitholders.

No advisor will recomment Saxon to you bcoz they get much larger Trailer fees and other kinds of fees from the bigger funds.

I know Selkirk likes thier Small Cap :D

Good luck and Cheers !!!

Spock you are correct Saxon is a good mutual fund company, and one to look at if you want some good steady returns.

at of October

1yr 3 year 5 year

Saxon
Cdn. Equity 7.8 12 7.7

aver. equity -6.8 .1 .4

Saxon Balanced 7.2 10.4 6.6

average balanced 1.2 1.5 7

Saxon small cap 14.5 10.7 6.9

average small cap 5.4 3.3 -1.6

did not post the Saxon International which often has over 50% in US. that fund has outperformed and they also have a Saxon High Income which invests in Income trusts which is very popular. That fund has outperformed but it seems to have a higher mer than I remember at 1.87. If you want to play income trusts prefer just to buy seperate ones, saying that there is just dozens waiting to come into the market and most are garbage.

The Saxon equity, balanced, small cap are all worth looking at, and International (conservative). None of these funds will probably be number one in any given year but they have shown a good record over time, and though at times they may underperform the market (very few times) they never seem to crash and burn like other funds.

Bisset Microcap is also another good small cap fund to look at, however most of the time it is closed and they only open it up a couple of times a year (if that), good fund to get into to if you can.......higher risk.

Bisset Microcap F mer 2.54 50.6%1yr 25.5%3yr 21.2% 5yr

there is another Bisset Microcap small cap F/A and Bissett Microcap F/A however ussually they do not sell the one anymore with the lower MER, the A version of microcap 3.63% compared to 2.54.

also a good fund family (load funds) but I hate the game of closing the older fund lower MER and then selling an exact duplicate but charging a higher (much higher) MER.

another thing to watch is if a fund gets to much money especially since the Saxon managers have been very good a playing small/mid cap stocks. though this does not seem like a problem as not to many people know about them compaered to other funds........and thats a good thing. :)

thanks
