I have a question for those against the war:

How would you handle the problem with iraq if you were the President ?

We have had a lot of passionate posts on this subject, so there should be some quality responses to this question.

If I were president and had a mind that isnt influenced by curruption

I would:

Send a recon team (75th rangers, green berate, etc...) and have them use urban warefare rather then sending 250,000 troops Iraqi troops dont wanna fight, they hate it their, if it was up to them they would drop their AK47s and run for the border - but Saddam is a crazy and would kill them and their families - so like anything else in life, its easier said then done. But with the technology and all the supposed "friends" and "cia" type of enforcements, really how hard would it be to cap Saddam?! I may have been playing with my toys in the late 80s, but I dont recall hearing 250,000 troops being sent to Panama.

So just a simple mission, kill him. Everyone(to my knowledge) will be happy(thats INCLUDING arabs <-- yes I would know) but as I said before....easier said then done :shrug:

would probably handle it about the same way GW is handling it. just because i'm *against* or *don't like* war, doesn't mean that it isn't necessary.....yes, i'm AGAINST the war, although believe it fully needs to happen, and support our troops completely!

Good 1st post. From what I have read at various sources the reason why there are 1/4mil. soldiers are because there are many places that have to either protected or attack. There has to be soldiers in the north in order to seperate the Kurds from the people in Turkey. Soldiers have to check out the various oil fields to ensure there aren't fires set, & so on.At the same time soldiers are going to surround bagdad & kill all the power & make sure everything is secure. Then they will do something similar like you mentioned & send in special ops & other forces & hunt for the madman & his sons.It isn't as easy as it sounds to get saddam, I heard that he hasn't been seen outside in about 2 years.

The reason why Reagan didn't send as many troops was that there wasn't the threat of wmd & panama military wasn't as strong as iraq.

I applaud Hellah's idea because it is the least risk, but it isn't practical. Saddam isn't sitting around his breakfast table having tea and crumpets with his family. The Republican Guard, about 30,000 strong, is deployed throughout Bagdad to keep people from getting to him. He is also several stories underground in a self-contained bunker. Nobody is going to bust in their and pop him, unless it is the Republican Guard itself. What is my solution? wish I had one. Have to believe that those making the decisions are far better qualified than I am. At some point you have to have some trust - would would you rather trust - our guys or Saddam?

First off if it's so dam important why was it not delt with1991 thru 2002. And please dont give me Clinton for answer. Looks like we have about 4 yeasr of Bushs that did nothing also. In fact I cant understand the winner of the cold war some have said. Reagan did nothing 87 and 88.
So since it was not important and nothing changed in Iraq that we did not already know about. What had to be done so urgently now.
If the world really wanted to ruin him. It only has to stop all trade with him. Then you would have seen the people revolt for sure. Hungry animals will attack. Yes even attack the guy with the gun when they dont have one. But when you have France,Germay and Russia that would never do that. Well when they said no we should just give the dam problem to them. We did not have to make it our holy crusade. We should let them and his neighbors who are closer and more at risk then we are handle the dam fool. They didn't want to join so make it there problem. This BS that everyone with a WMD is going to use it only on us would soon end. So far the weapon of WMD used to do us the most damage was airplanes. With most of there traning done right here in the USA. Dont remember Iraq ever being mentioned. Hell if Russia, France, Germany, Saudi, Egypt to name a few are not worried about Iraq. Why we running around like scared rabbits. this idea that Iraq is coming to get us. Oh I forgot there sending someone in next day or two with a A bomb in a suite case. Please! why did we not just once tell the world Iraq is your baby were staying home. Dam that would have been a bold move.
Thats why I say no to this war. Dont care what President it was of the last three. Was not important before is not today.
