As a bettor and full time RVer, Laughlin has been a long time fav. But the casinos have deteriorated to such a degree I'm forced to look for other winter havens.

The combo of RV options, shopping, warm weather, and convenience is exceptional. You don't find many small towns with the amenities of the Laughlin/Bullhead area. But like most small towns entertainment options are limited. Which brings us to

The casinos. How bad is it? Don't take my word for it. Carl Icahn's Tropicana almost had the River Palms sold for 7 mil, but the outfit headed by former Stations exec backed out at the last minute. That's right 7 Mil for a Colorado riverfront property. The Riverside just removed 9/6 Jcks video poker. Just before the onset of peak snowbird and tourism season. A trivial loss leader at worst. Especially when you consider the people who don't play max coins, or play correctly or don't use or forget to use players cards.

These casinos are being operated like clip joints and they still can't make money. The service? Well they still try to fake it. They aren't very good at it though, and when they aren't doing a canned routine, they have the demeanor of Gitmo guards.

I think most of them would prefer to simply kill people and take the money.

You ought to consider either south Vegas, easy access to either the M or SouthPoint or, if you want to stay out of metro Phoenix, go south of there to Maricopa...there is a CET property there and you are about 30mns outside of Phx. From there, you can also get down to Tucson pretty easily if you like. that whole area caters to "snowbirds" and you will definitely find many people doing the same route as you to avoid the cold winter and hot summer.

Laughlin was always an option if you wanted to take visitors somewhere (when they didn't want the Vegas experience) more so for the drive through the desert an mountains and the nice vistas. You are very right though, there is no reason to game there. When we did go, we limited our options to the Golden Nugget after having the same experiences as you at any other casino. Pretty much a run down dump now with no one putting any money into upgrades.
