:thinking: :thinking: :thinking:

7 of the last 8 BCS Bowl Winners have had qbs that are considered dual threats. Wonder if times are changing or just a temporary fad. Although through the years qbs with legs have had much more sucess at collegiate level vs. the pros.

Scott, the first item in the list in your signature should read '1 National Championship' and the last item should read 'undefeated at home since 1/5/06.' Hope this helps.

Scotty-

Times are changing in both the college and pro game.

Forty years ago (although I would not have been alive) I imagine that Vince Young and Michael Vick would have been playing defensive back or running back.

Of course college utilizes more bootlegs and options, so speed at the QB position is that much more important...

didnt they lose on UCLA's home turf not on their own?

i think the last quote should be 3 losses by NINE points?

3 losses by 3 points seems to indicate they lost all 3 by 1 point. nitpicky i spose.....

i thought LSU won the BCS championship in 2003, so i would concur on the first item.

Its much harder to gameplan for a running QB in the college game...the speed isn't there defensively like in the Pros

USC has won 2 National Championships in the last 4 years. USC has won 1 BCS NC in the last 4 years. USC plays in the Coliseum, not the Rose Bowl.

I still prefer the drop back passer (leinart) vs dual threat QB (Young).

For starters, drop back passers are usually more consistent. USC had 3 amazing years with Leinart at QB and flat out dominated. Texas had 1 amazing year with Young.

Carson Palmer---> Matt Leinart ------> _____

Young----> ______

Can Texas keep the same offensive dominance without Young? USC has done it with 2 different QB's (4 years total) and next year will be QB #3.

I wonder if Pete Carroll will ever go with the dual threat QB. I am sure more teams in college will now be going with the dual threat QB. Look at the outstanding results.

I guess you can have success either way. What offenses/QB's do you prefer?

Not according to NCAA.org and I believe that their records are accurate. Click here and Face The Facts Scooter!

The AP Poll DOES NOT COUNT! Are you going to count 2002 as well because of Dunkel, Matthews and Sagarin?

Young----> __Snead____
-from what I have read this guy is just like Young

Who says QB#3 will do it next year...but I guess you could make the same argument for Leinart's frist season...guess only time will tell

Remember this

Remember this

In handicapping college football the only thing that stays the same is "things change." It is our life's course. If you don't have a objective view point then you will lose most of the time. Remember that.

Yes, and good ol' Roy won his 5th National Championship last year at North Carolina. However, it was only the 1st Final Four National Championship.

Nobody knows how USC #3 QB will perform. BUt what we do know is people thought USC couldn't replace Palmer. USC has had consistent high powered offensive production 4 straight years lead by 2 QB's. Texas has only 1 with Young. My money is on USC having more success based on a combination of talent and system. Plus USC has 2 elite 5-star QB's battling it out that prob. could start at 90% of the programs in the country.

Snead IMO was the best QB in the Army All Star game. Seemed like a playmaker. Tough to ask a TRUE FROSH to come in right away and have success.

You forgot to include Todd Marinivich in your chain of great USC drop back passers

My chain was only for Pete Carroll era and his system. Marinivich was a great QB.

90% might just be a little high...Leinart also had other weapons to work with...It wasn't completely on his shoulders that first year...This QB is going to have to make some plays this season...Cause someone is going to have to get the ball to those fantastic WRs Jarrett, Smith and Turner...these guys could have a solid season with the right QB...Undefeated, I don't really think it will happen but anything is possible

Plus USC has 2 elite 5-star QB's battling it out

Lets hope Carroll is smart enough not to go with the two QB system...we all knowTressel wasn't...I am also a little curious to see what SC's running game will look like next season...From what I can tell most of the line will be back...New recruit Moody is explosive in open field but his pass protection is questionable, but it sounds like the kid can play ball...Scott, do you think this kid gets the nod on the start?...I'm thinking mid-season...but we all know those rankings don't mean chit either...guys who aren't even highly recruited won Heismans

As for the defense it should be fun to watch Carroll work this magic against that high powered Pac-10...They are going to have experience but that doesn't matter if the players can't make plays...Perez, a big hitter should give some help to the secondary...but I don't think he'll be too significant his first season...It will be pretty interesting watching how Carroll shapes this team for next season

I agree it is high % but when you see USC next year at QB position I think I will be proven right. Both Booty and Sanchez were #1 at their position coming out of high school. IMO, Sanchez will have a career similar to Leianrt and I think he can beat out Booty. What both bring to the table is mobility. Not VY mobility but both can buy extra time out of pocket which allows those all american cailber WR's and TE extra time to get open. Something USC NEVER had with Leianart. I am SOOO looking forward to seeing USC QB by time OUTSIDE the pocket.

Lets hope Carroll is smart enough not to go with the two QB system...

I agree and hate it. Carroll said he wants to name a starter after Spring ball. :) Same thing he did with Leinart 3 years ago.

we all Tressel wasn't...I am also a little curious to see what SC's running game will look like next season...From what I can tell most of the line will be back...New recruit Moody is explosive in open field but his pass protection is questionable, but it sounds like the kid can play ball...Scott, do you think this kid gets the nod on the start?...I'm thinking mid-season...but we all know those rankings don't mean chit either...guys who aren't even highly recruited won Heismans

IMO Moody will NEVER start at USC. The prize RB recruit is S. Johnson and he prob. won't start his frosh year. USC also might get another huge recruit in Goodson. ALso USC got Gable who is 4-star but he might be moved to DB. LOADED! Nothing but 4-star and 5-star players for Carroll. Amazing.

But people forget RB Hershal Dennis. He was the starter on USC's first National Championship team ahead of Bush/White. He then got falsely charged with rape following year, Carroll benched him entire year for missing curfew, and he hurt his knee in practice and redshirted this year. This guy is a stud. Not Bush/White talent but he is solid in every category. I expect HUGE year for the guy and I know it was very painful for him to watch Bush/White steal all the glory. This guy was HUGE HUGE recruit for USC 4 years ago.

Again people forget Chauncey Washington. He was in same class as BUSH and WHite and he was actually ahead in depth chart against Auburn that year. But he hurt knee, then struggled with grades last 2 years. He has chance to be STAR if he gets grades in order and will miss this years spring practice. Combo of Bush/White. Who knows if he suits up.

Des. Reed and Colemon will battle too. Reed is speed back and Colemon is BRUISER.

USC has LOTs of options with returning RB's but if they don't cut it, USC is bringing in the cream of the crop RB's from High School. S. Johnson is #2 rated RB in country.

These high school recruits only see BUSH and White leaving. But they don't realize the talent USC had at RB that got HURT this season. Bunch of talented RB's already on the roster.

I have feeling people will watch next years USC D and think to themselves, how the hell did they look so bad against Texas. LB unit is def. the strength that goes 3-deep.

Carroll was on radio tonight and basically said his guys are motivated and excited about the opportunity next season. Carroll does not guarantee any starting jobs and everything is open. Carroll said he expects this years recruiting class to produce right away and play major role in next years success. Nobody's job is safe and everyone must battle to earn starting position.
