Tabloid Titans John Wayne Bobbitt and Joey Buttafuoco Come Out Swinging And Sports Stars William ?The Refrigerator? Perry and Manute Bol Square Off
Four more of the nation?s most identifiable personalities -- John Wayne Bobbitt, Joey Buttafuoco, William ?The Refrigerator? Perry and Manute Bol -- will don the gloves and slug it out inside the ring in the all new 90-minute special CELEBRITY BOXING 2 Wednesday, May 22 (8:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
The first of the four scheduled cards pits tabloid tough guys Joey Buttafuoco against John Wayne Bobbitt. The sports spectacular second card consists of super-size football powerhouse William ?The Refrigerator? Perry and basketball giant Manute Bol. The remaining cards will be announced soon.
Following are brief bios for the fighters:
Joey Buttafuoco rose to infamy in 1993 for his involvement with the "Long Island Lolita," Amy Fisher. Since then, he has been pursuing an acting career, most recently seen in the films ?Finding Forrester,? ?Celebrity? and ?The Godson.?
John Wayne Bobbitt is notorious for surviving a radical dismemberment in 1993 when his wife, Lorena, separated him from his manhood. He then appeared in a gimmicky adult biopic of his own life, as well as in a dominatrix video, in order to pay his medical and legal bills. Currently he is pursuing a career in acting.
William ?The Refrigerator? Perry was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1984 and quickly became a household name as an overpowering defensive tackle. However, Perry?s biggest gridiron highlight occurred offensively when he dove into the end zone for a touchdown during Super Bowl XX in 1985.
Manute Bol, the 7?7? Dinka tribesman from Sudan, came to the United States in 1984 and played basketball for one season for the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. Drafted into the NBA, in his rookie season Bol set a record with 397 blocked shots. After eleven years in the league, Bol currently focuses his attention on The Ring True Foundation, a fund he created to assist the victims of war and strife in Sudan.
The original one-hour edition of CELEBRITY BOXING knocked out viewers, ranking among the season?s highest-rated entertainment specials on any network. Leading in key demographics and outperforming original programming from the competition, the special earned a 7.1 rating and 17 share among Adults 18-49 and dominated its time period in total viewers (15.5 million).
Produced by dick clark productions, CELEBRITY BOXING 2 will give more memorable newsmakers the opportunity to rough each other up in the ring to prove just who is the champ and who is the chump.
