Loophole or anybody, can u explain to me about this from Vietnam. It was mentioned in another thread, and I've never heard the term even with all I've read. I assume this means throwing a grenade near the CO?? Thanks.

Sixfive maybe this will help

"Frag incidents" or "fragging" was soldier slang in Vietnam for the killing of strict, unpopular and aggressive officers and NCO's. The word apparently originated from enlisted men using fragmentation grenades to off commanders.

"fragging" as in fragmentation grenade. as best i know, term had its origins during the vietnam war. because of the draft and the length of the war, seasoned combat troops in the field would often get green second louies as battlefield commanders, whose tactical decisions in the field would cost lives of their troops. some troops solved the problem by tossing a fragmentation grenade into the officer's tent.

Do you guys consider this "fragging"? My dad was in Vietnam and what you all have said about the issue above is true. Unpopular, green commanders who were costing units lives were fragged. What did these commanders do to deserve this? they weren't in a firefight or even the frontlines.

ssd, don't get the impression that all fragging incidents in vietnam were justifiable. some co's got fragged because they took the troops dope away.
