Long Beach State has a rotation of only 7. Three of their
players average 32+ minutes per game, and four of them
played 30+ minutes last night while beating Xavier, who
is currently a messed up team that was playing without
two suspended players. It allowed Long Beach State to
play box-and-one against Tu Holloway and shut him down.
Tonight, LBS comes right back to face a team they can
easily look past because they aren?t ranked or
anything, it?s Auburn that has the edges for the
current situation ? a roster where 10 players have
averaged at least 10 minutes per game. Although head
coach Tony Barbee stuck to a rotation of 7 last night,
he?s no dummy. He has some fresh players who are bigger
and longer than Long Beach State?s biggest and longest
players. His side has a lot more fouls to give. That?s
how you play it with an underdog in a tournament game
with no rest ? you get physical. It?s why Long Beach
State?s Dan Monson can?t get his team out of the Big
West Tournament every year. It doesn?t matter that he
can sneak into spots and beat uncranked Pitt and Xavier
and whoever else doesn?t take LBS seriously. This coach
doesn?t get it, but hopefully because he doesn?t,
we will.
