My birthday. I am also hunting for big trifectas. Usually the big ones are only hit by the people who play arbitrary numbers, because most people aren't going to handicap a triple with three longshots in it. If I play these #'s religiously without worrying about odds or past performances I 'm bound to hit the monster.

smash mouth,

dont take this the wrong way but your strategy is really bad..

betting your b-day? you dont look at odds or the jockey, or past performances??

man if you want a good formula that can still hit big but is a smarter bet.......try this.

i got this off a website and it has worked wonders!

If you are using a system that identifies the top 4 in each race, here is a good betting system.
If one of your top selections goes off at good odds and you like him, don't be afraid to bet him to win for $20 or more. Bet more on the horses with higher odds and less on horses with lower odds. If you are going to survive and enjoy this game, it is going to be on good and large hits, not a whole bunch of small ones. The odds are against you there. The following Exacta model is great and works fantastic; First off all always "gravitate" towards your selections with higher odds. Let's say we like 4 horses and in order #'s 1-2-3-4 #1 BEING YOUR TOP PICK ETC.

EXACTAS
$8 1-2
$6 2-1
$5 1-3
$4 3-1
$3 2-3
$3 3-2
$2 1-4
$2 4-1

This is a $33 bet. If top picks hit you make good money. If your $2
bet hits, you probably break even on the hedge. It is definitly NOT
recommended to play every race. If you play every race you will loose
money, no ifs ands or buts. If you just like this game to have fun
(nothing wrong with that) and like to bet every race then make all
of the above smaller wagers and cross your fingers.
Pick and choose your spots and look for value.
Also pay attention to the will pays before the race. You might have to
make some slight adjustments to make sure you hedge correctly.
Any maximum bet should not exceed 5% of your spendable bankroll. To
make the bet described above, you must have $700 in spendable bankroll or
more. If you are serious about making money, bring your chips to the table.
Most important have fun and good luck !!!

youve got enough bank roll to pull this off!

some of your hits are kind of small but every now and then you nail a big one!!

i used this today and nailed a huge daddy! (of course olympic said i didnt get my bet in on time! but thats a whole other head ache!)

8th race - Monmouth Park - July 11, 2002
Pgm Horse Win Place Show
9 Aprizedslew 19.20 10.00 4.40
1 Big Hope 7.40 4.20
10 Charrua's Hill (ARG) 3.40

$2 Exacta 9-1 133.20
$2 Trifecta 9-1-10 743.20
$2 Pick 3 3-1-9 (3 correct) 283.20
$2 Pick 4 1-3-1-9 (4 correct) 4,427.00

the only problem is you might have to do a little work and check out the odds. still use your birthday #s

but play them big on the best odds. and smaller on the longshots..

good luck

:)

gibber1,

thanks for the system.

haven't been playing the ponies for some time. lost my bankroll trying a much too expensive superfecta scheme.

you are so right about hitting the overlays in order to survive; i lesson i believe i have finally learned firsthand.

and i appreciate smashmouth posting his experiment, as this game is so mindbending to me that i sometimes think there is no rational way to play it, so a system like his might prove interesting, success or failure. so thanks, smashmouth.
