Pittsburgh
Rider (12-13) at Niagara (14-11)

DATE & TIME: Friday, February 28th, 7:00 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Gallagher Center (2,100) -- Niagara, New York.
Television: None. Home Record: Rider 8-6, Niagara 6-4. Away Record: Rider 4-7,
Niagara 8-7. Neutral Record: Rider 0-0, Niagara 0-0. Conference Record: Rider
7-9, Niagara 10-6. Series Record: Niagara leads, 8-5.

GAME NOTES: The Niagara Purple Eagles try to moving up the Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference ladder as they battle the Rider Broncs from the Gallagher
Center in upstate New York tonight. Rider had its recent three-game winning
streak snapped last Sunday in a 72-61 setback against Siena. The Broncs are
now 7-9 in the MAAC and while they are 8-6 at home this season, they have won
only four of their 11 road tilts. The Purple Eagles have won four of their
last five contests, including a huge 83-79 victory against Fairfield last
Saturday. The win moved Niagara into a three-way tie for second place in the
MAAC, with Siena and Iona, as all three teams have gone 10-6 in conference
play this year. The Broncs have won two of the last three meetings with the
Purple Eagles, but Niagara still has hold of an 8-5 series advantage and
pulled out a 74-68 victory on Rider's home floor earlier this season.

Jerry Johnson scored 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor in the
Broncs' loss to Siena last weekend. Robert Taylor finished with 11 points,
while Laurence Young added 10 points and three assists. Rider shot just 37.5
percent from the field and only 20.8 percent from behind the arc, while also
converting a mere 14-of-21 attempts from the charity stripe. The Broncs had
breakdowns on defense as well, allowing Siena to shoot 51.1 percent from the
field and a staggering 57.1 percent from three-point range. Johnson is
averaging a team-high 18.5 ppg, despite shooting only 37.6 percent from the
field and 29.8 percent from beyond the arc. Taylor is knocking in 13.2 ppg on
41.1 percent shooting from long range and grabbing 4.3 rpg. Young is the third
Bronc in double figures, scoring 10.6 ppg and has done so despite shooting
only 25.4 percent from three-point land.

James Reaves poured in a game-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the
floor to lead the Purple Eagles in their recent victory against Fairfield.
Juan Mendez finished with 18 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Alvin
Cruz added 13 points and a team-best eight assists. Tremmell Darden was the
fourth Niagara player in double figures, scoring 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting
from the floor. The Purple Eagles were able to connect on 15-of-17 free-throw
attempts and convert a solid 54.4 percent of their total shots. Mendez is
leading the team in scoring and on the boards this year, averaging 17.8 ppg
and 8.6 rpg. He's also shooting an impressive 59.3 percent from the field and
recording a team-high 1.2 bpg. Darden is contributing 17.1 ppg and 5.6 rpg,
while Reaves has been able to turn in 11.2 ppg and 7.9 rpg. David Brooks is
the fourth Niagara player netting double digits, knocking in 10.0 ppg on 34
percent shooting downtown.

Rider will give the Purple Eagles a game tonight, but it may not be able to
come away with a victory, as it has had trouble closing out games on the road
this season. Mendez, Darden and Reaves make up one of the best trios in the
MAAC this year, and they should be able to lead Niagara to a win tonight in
front of the hometown faithful.

Pittsburgh
San Francisco (12-13) at Loyola Marymount (10-17)

DATE & TIME: Friday, February 28th, 10:05 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Gersten Pavilion (4,156) -- Los Angeles, California.
Television: None. Home Record: San Francisco 9-5, Loyola Marymount 7-4. Away
Record: San Francisco 3-8, Loyola Marymount 1-10. Neutral Record: San
Francisco 0-0, Loyola Marymount 2-3. Conference Record: San Francisco 7-5,
Loyola Marymount 4-8. Series Record: San Francisco leads, 91-29.

GAME NOTES: The San Francisco Dons try to keep their grip on third place in
the West Coast Conference standings when they battle the Loyola Marymount
Lions from Gersten Pavilion in Los Angeles tonight. The Dons enter the game
just 12-13 on the season, but have been successful in conference action with a
7-5 mark. San Francisco is currently one game ahead of Pepperdine for third
place in the WCC, but has to finish the season on the road where it is only
3-8 thus far. The Dons dropped an 81-63 decision to San Diego last Saturday,
which was their second loss in the last three games. As for Loyola Marymount,
it is currently tied for sixth place in the WCC at 4-8 and is a disappointing
10-17 overall. The Lions were crushed, 94-71 by Pepperdine last Saturday,
marking the team's second consecutive loss. San Francisco has a 91-29 all-
times series advantage over Loyola Marymount, and has won three straight over
the Lions, including a 91-73 victory earlier this season at home.

San Francisco shot a dismal 39.7 percent from the field and an even worse 19.0
percent from long range, as it was hammered by San Diego last weekend, 81-63.
The Toreros knocked down 52.8 percent from the field and 54.8 percent from
three-point land, in addition to owning a 40-31 rebounding advantage. The Dons
were also outdone at the free-throw line where San Diego converted 19-of-28
compared to only 5-of-7 for USF. Darrell Tucker paced San Francisco in defeat
with 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field and six boards. John Cox
added 11 points, while James Bayless recorded a double-double with 10 points
and 10 rebounds in the losing cause. The Dons are led on the season by Tucker,
who is the third-leading scorer in the WCC with 17.9 ppg and is also the
second-leading rebounder with 8.1 rpg. Cox adds a solid one-two punch with
15.6 ppg and is draining 43.1 percent from three-point land, while Shammell
Stallworth chips in 12.8 ppg. Bayless adds 10.4 ppg and 5.7 rpg for San
Francisco, which is averaging 68.8 ppg on 46.2 percent shooting from the field
this season.

Loyola Marymount is led on the season by Brandon Worthy, who is turning in
11.6 ppg primarily coming off the bench. Charles Brown nets 10.9 ppg and is
the team's top playmaker with 4.2 apg, while Andy Osborn adds 10.1 ppg and 4.0
rpg. As a team, the Lions are netting 71.5 ppg on only 42.7 percent shooting
from the field this season. In its last contest, Loyola Marymount could not
overcome 20 turnovers and 12 three-pointers from Pepperdine in a 23-point loss
to the Waves. The Lions shot only 44.4 percent from the field in the game,
while Pepperdine knocked down a rock-solid 53.1 percent. Sherman Gay led LMU
with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. Worthy added 13 points and
four assists, while Osborn chipped in 10 points in the losing effort.

San Francisco has a lot to play for in its next couple of games, and should
not look past a struggling Loyola Marymount squad tonight. The Lions have had
a disappointing season to say the least, but with a couple of wins to close
things out, they could pull into the middle of the WCC. The Dons should still
be able to win this game despite their road troubles this season, since they
are simply the more talented team.

Pittsburgh
St. Mary's (CA) (12-13) at Pepperdine (14-11)

DATE & TIME: Friday, February 28th, 10:00 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Firestone Fieldhouse (3,104) -- Malibu, California.
Television: Local. Home Record: St. Mary's 9-6, Pepperdine 5-5. Away Record:
St.Mary's 2-7, Pepperdine 6-6. Neutral Record: St. Mary's 1-0, Pepperdine 3-0.
Conference Record: St. Mary's 5-7, Pepperdine 6-6. Series Record: Pepperdine
leads, 66-39.

GAME NOTES: The St. Mary's Gaels try to overtake the Pepperdine Waves for
fourth place in the West Coast Conference standings when the two clash from
the Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu tonight. St. Mary's enters the game with a
5-7 WCC mark, which puts it one game behind Pepperdine, who it defeated
earlier this season. With a win the Gaels would own the tie breaker and take
over sole possession of the fourth spot. However, things have not been going
well for the Gaels of late, as they have lost two straight games and five of
their last six overall. The team's most recent defeat came against Santa Clara
last Sunday, 57-56, which dropped it under .500 on the season at 12-13. As for
Pepperdine, it has won three of its last four games, including a decisive
94-71 victory over Loyola Marymount last Saturday. With the win, the Waves
improved to 14-11 on the season and an even 6-6 in league play. Pepperdine has
a 66-39 series lead over St. Mary's, but lost a 74-67 decision in Moraga
earlier this year. The Waves have won five straight in Malibu over the Gaels,
and they are 32-10 against them at home all-time.

St. Mary's held a one-point advantage with 6.5 second remaining in the game,
but could not handle an inbound pass that was stolen and laid in by Santa
Clara for a 57-56 Bronco victory. Neither team was accurate with its shooting,
as Santa Clara only knocked in 38.8 percent from the field and St. Mary's an
even worse 31.7 percent. The Gaels kept the game close by hitting 26-of-34
from the charity stripe, while Santa Clara converted just 12-of-17. Samuel
Saint-Jean paced the Gaels in defeat with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from
the field. Frederic Adjiwanou connected on 11-of-12 from the free-throw line
on his way to 17 points an eight boards. St. Mary's is led on the season by
Daniel Kickert, who is turning in 12.0 ppg on 53.0 percent shooting from the
floor. Kickert is the only player who is netting double-digit points for the
Gaels, who are averaging 67.0 ppg on 44.9 percent shooting from the field.

Pepperdine is led by four double-digit scorers, each of whom contribute
immensely to the team's 78.8 ppg scoring average on 46.0 percent shooting from
the field. Jimmy Miggins is the squad's leader with 15.3 ppg and 5.7 rpg,
while Terrance Johnson adds 14.5 ppg and is connecting on 42.7 percent from
three-point land. Alex Acker chips in 13.0 ppg and Boomer Brazzle rounds out
the group with 12.2 ppg and a team-leading 6.3 rpg. In the team's last
contest, Pepperdine shot a solid 53.1 percent from the field while creating 20
turnovers in a 23-point victory over Loyola Marymount. The Waves finished the
game 12-of-28 from long range and held the Lions to just 44.4 percent shooting
from the floor and 5-of-18 from behind the arc. Five Waves scored double-digit
points in the game, with Johnson's 23 leading the way. Miggins added 20 points
and nine boards while Mike Westphal chipped in 16 points coming off the bench.
Acker added 11 points and Brazzle had 10 in the winning effort.

St. Mary's has fallen on tough time since a fast start in the WCC and needs to
win one of its next two games to avoid facing one of the top teams in the
upcoming conference tournament. Pepperdine has been just the opposite, after a
slow start in conference it has really come on and is now only one game back
of third place. The Waves are clearly the hotter team and have more than
enough offensive firepower to overmatch a struggling Gaels squad.

Pittsburgh
Marist (11-14) at Canisius (9-16)

DATE & TIME: Friday, February 28th, 7:00 p.m. (et).

FACTS & STATS: Site: Koessler Center (2,100) -- Buffalo, New York.
Television: None. Home Record: Marist 6-7, Canisius 5-6. Away Record: Marist
4-6, Canisius 3-10. Neutral Record: Marist 1-1, Canisius 1-0. Conference
Record: Marist 7-9, Canisius 5-11. Series Record: Canisius leads, 6-5.

GAME NOTES: The Marist Red Foxes try to win their third consecutive game, as
they take on the Canisius Golden Griffins in Metro Atlantic Athletic
Association action from the Koessler Center in Buffalo tonight. The Red Foxes
were able to win their second game in a row last Sunday in taking a 75-74
decision against Iona. At 7-9 in MAAC play, Marist is tied for third place in
the league and it will try to improve on its subpar road record tonight as it
currently sits at just 4-6. The Golden Griffins have hit a rough spot of late,
losing six of their last seven games, including a 79-60 setback to St. Peter's
last Sunday. With a record of 5-11 in the MAAC, Canisius sits second to last
in the league standings and is just 5-6 at home this season. Canisius leads
the all-time series between these two teams by the smallest of margins, 6-5.
While the Griffins have won three of the last five meetings, the Red Foxes
were able to pull out an 83-78 victory at home in their earlier meeting this
season.

Nick Eppehimer scored 20 points on 3-of-6 shooting from long range to lead the
Red Foxes in their win against Iona. David Bennett scored 15 points on 9-of-10
shooting from the charity stripe and drained two crucial free throws in the
waning seconds of regulation to put Marist ahead for good. Brandon Ellerbee
finished with 13 points, helping the Red Foxes overcome just 37.9 percent
shooting from the floor and a rebounding disadvantage of 43-29. Marist was
able to connect on 42.1 percent of its three-point attempts and convert an
impressive 23-of-24 shots from the foul line. Eppehimer is leading the Marist
scoring attack this season, averaging 16.9 ppg on 37.4 percent shooting from
downtown. Bennett is contributing 13.5 ppg and 3.0 rpg, despite shooting only
40.3 percent from the field. Ellerbee is knocking in 10.7 ppg and dishing out
a team-best 3.7 apg.

Brian Dux paced the Golden Griffins in their loss to St. Peter's, scoring 17
points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range. Hodari Mallory added 14
points, while Chris Ravello came off the bench to chip in 10 points on 5-of-7
shooting from the field. Canisius shot 41.2 percent from the floor and 40
percent from three-point land, but made only 12-of-21 attempts from the
charity stripe. The Griffs turned the ball over 21 times, as St. Peter's was
able to convert those miscues into 27 vital points. Mallory has been the most
consistent player for Canisius this season, averaging team-highs of 17.3 ppg
and 6.6 rpg. He's also shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 41.7 percent
from three-point territory, while swiping a team-best 45 steals. Dux is
scoring 15.2 ppg on 48.2 percent shooting from the floor and is the team's
best passer, dishing out a team-high and second best in the MAAC, 5.8 apg.
Although Jon Ferris has started only two games for Canisius this season, he's
managed to turn in 9.3 ppg and 5.1 rpg.

Marist has played well of late, but it will not go into Buffalo and pull out
an easy victory. Mallory and Dux present tough matchup problems for the Red
Foxes, but they should be able to record a win with their solid perimeter
scoring attack.

Once again, best of luck to all of you.
