NY Mets +110-- Why not?? The Mets are one of the hotter teams going right now and I am going to ride them until they lose. Rusch has been a bit inconsistent, but it seems the Mets have been motivated to inch up in the standings...while the Fish have basically given up. As crazy as it sounds, NY is "only" 7 back after their horrendous first half...
Houston -240-- I HATE laying this kind of number...but I'll give it a shot tonight. Wade Miller is 4-0 with a 1.14 ERA averaging 8 innings a start vs. the Brewers, and takes on Mac Suzuki, who was RELEASED by pitching poor KC and Colorado this year. Miller over the last 3 starts?? 2-1, 21 IP, 1.71 ERA. Not too shabby. The fact that Milwaukee beat them last night adds value to the vast pitching difference. Houston has a crown on the line, while the Brew Crew is playing out the string. Houston -240
NY Yankees +115-- Yeah, taking the NY daily double. El Duque was outstanding vs the Sox a week ago and is basically pitching for a spot in the playoff rotation. For whatever reason, the Yanks basically own Pedro, and have beaten him fairly consistently. That, along with the Red Sox runnin' up the white flag, no Nomar, Manny going thru the motions, Pedro's dispute w/Duquette, and the Yanks at home as a dog...lead me to NY tonight
Chicago White Sox +145-- Besides the game yesterday, the Sox have been hot. They stand 8 back with about 20 left and HAVE to sweep the series to have any chance to contend. Although the Tribe hits Biddle well, Burba has not fared well vs Chicago either. The Tribe is coming off a decent roadie and spend 4 nights in town before heading out to Toronto. First game back off of a road trip is one of the tougher to win...so I'll take the 'desperate' team in Chicago.
Cleveland/Chicago over 11.5 +105-- Burba's 4 starts vs CWS 1-3, 17 innings, 9.53 ERA. Biddle's 3 vs. Cleveland 2-1, 13.1 innings, 8.77 ERA. It is alot of runs, but with the expanded rosters, we may also see some "farm guys" take the hill if either starter falters early.
Toronto -115-- Clubs heading in opposite directions. Lyon is a nice young arm taht allowed 1 run over 7 in his last start vs the Kitties...Homer Lima got pasted by the Jays in allowing 6 runs over 4. Also--toronto is a .500 club on the road....
Anaheim -130-- The Twins are a demoralized bunch after losing their last series in Texas. They realize that their season is over...and they may be overtaken for second place by the Sox. Tonight, they throw Lohse, whos is arguably their #4 man vs. Ramon Ortiz who some have called Lil' Pedro. He's not THAT good...but does have similar stuff. Also--the Twins had to travel the other half of the country from Dallas to LA...while the Angels rested comfortably in their own beds. Anaheim at home 36-31...Twinkies on the highway, 31-37. I'll go with the Angels as the small fave.
Good luck tonight...
