northwestern finished the season winning their last three - (2 of those wins vs iowa and wisconsin) and 4 of their last 5. everyone @ NW loves pat fitzgerald, who is one of the best young coaches in the game.
auburn's first year coach gene chizick was a controversial hire at the start of the year. they started off 5-0 (4 of those games at home), which helped silence the critics, but since them went 2-5 in their last 7, losing all three games on the road. chizick's doubters have resurfaced throughout the season.
last year this same NW team was a 14 point dog to missouri (alamo bowl), only to lose in OT by a touchdown. the only bowl game any of these kids have been to while at NW. now they get to play in a new year's day game.
doesn't mean a whole lot, but i read that auburn is the first team in over 50 years to be playing on new years day, who had a losing conference record. (3-5)
i like NW to be competitive throughout and possibly have a chance to win this game. they are 3-0 this season ats and s/u as a 10 point dog or less, and 5-0 ats and s/u in this scenerio over the last three seasons. i think if they cover they win, but don't have the balls to put it all on the ML.
