Winning Points NBA

Friday, February 27

*Boston over Toronto by 5
No Jalen Rose, no Vince Carter. It?s not like the Raptors were setting the scoreboard on fire when these guys were healthy. BOSTON 89-84.

*Orlando over Cleveland by 2
The Cavs have gone over 13 of their last 18 through Feb. 21, while the Magic are 13-5-1 to the over their last 19 also through Feb. 21. ORLANDO 108-106.

*Detroit over Atlanta by 9
You can?t tell the Hawks without a scorecard these days, which is a good thing. Rasheed Wallace gets an opportunity to rack up technical fouls with Detroit now instead of Atlanta. DETROIT 96-87.

*Minnesota over Golden State by 12
This could be a rest stop for Golden State, playing its third road game in four nights and with the wretched Bulls on deck Saturday presenting a serious winnable road situation.
MINNESOTA 96-84.

*New Orleans over Indiana by 3
The Hornets are coming on with Jamal Mashburn and Baron Davis healthy and playing well, while the Pacers figure to be without defensive specialist Ron Artest in this rugged matchup.
NEW ORLEANS 95-92.

***BEST BET *Milwaukee over Memphis by 15
The Bucks marked this game in red following their 105-85 humiliation to the Grizzlies Feb. 6. That may have been Milwaukee?s worst performance of the season. The Grizzlies have problems rebounding and playing tight interior defense. The Bucks are 16-3 SU, 13-5-1 ATS since December at the Bradley Center through Feb. 23, and have beaten tougher teams than Memphis at home during this span, including Detroit, Indiana, New Jersey, Dallas, New Orleans and San Antonio.
MILWAUKEE 109-94.

***BEST BET Portland over *Houston by 6
The Blazers have retooled, improved their bench strength and actually now have better chemistry by adding Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Theo Ratliff, plus Derek Anderson has come up after being out early in the season. Portland has covered eight of its last nine away games through Feb. 22. Point guard Steve Francis still isn?t comfortable running Jeff Van Gundy?s offense. PORTLAND 88-82.

*Seattle over Phoenix by 2
Going into the weekend of Feb. 21, the Sonics had dropped nine of their last 12 games, and had not put together consecutive victories since January. Who do these guys think they are the Hawks? SEATTLE 98-96.

*Sacramento over Utah by 13
Chris Webber still will be sitting out his eight-game suspension, but the Jazz have slipped noticeably after hanging tough the first couple of months. The Kings were leading the NBA in scoring at 105 points per game going into the third week of February. The Jazz hadn?t reached triple digits in 22 straight games through Feb. 21. SACRAMENTO 105-92.

New York over *Los Angeles Clippers by 1
The Clippers defense, bad to start with, has gotten worse. The Clippers have allowed
an average of 100 points their past 12 games through Feb. 20. NEW YORK 103-102.

Gold Sheet
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27

YALE over Harvard by 6 to 8?03-HAR +9' 78-71; 02-YALE -8 73-68, Yale -1 95-82

PENN 67 - Cornell 60?Penn caught Cornell flat Feb. 14 at Ithaca after Big Red fell
short vs. Princeton in emotional encounter the night before. Quakers no ****** last 3
as Palestra chalk. 03-Penn -4' 79-52; 02-Penn -17 70-67, PENN -22' 69-52

BROWN 79 - Dartmouth 53?Resignation of HC Faucher (effective season?s end)
certainly didn?t provide any spark for lifeless Dartmouth in pair of one-sided Ivy road
defeats last weekend. Doubt scenario changes for Big Green against slick jr. G Forte
and capable Brown outfit that battered Dartmouth by 20 at Hanover Feb. 14 and owns
pair of wins over solid Penn contingent. Bears on 8-2 spread uptick last 10. 03-Brown
-5 84-64; 02-BROWN -13 61-53, Brown -4' 79-67

PRINCETON over Columbia by 9 to 12?Princeton has 2-game lead in Ivy
standings. But Tigers have dropped 6 of last 8 vs. spread (only 2 DD wins during
span), while Columbia has covered 6 of its last 8 (4-4 SU with only 1 DD loss). 03-Prin
-8 78-71 (OT); 02-Prin -14 68-51, PRIN -20' 44-40

Rice 71 - SAN JOSE ST. 51?Limited San Jose, no offensive juggernaut to begin
with (only 53 ppg last 6), now might be on even shorter rations on attack end with top
scorer 6-8 PF E. Walton hampered by sprained ankle (played only 4 mins. in Feb. 21
loss at Boise). Scant evidence WAC doormat Spartans match up any better vs.
?bubble? Rice than Jan. 31 at Houston, when Owls rolled by 33 while dominating glass
37-17. 03-RICE -18' 82-49; 02-Rice -4' 71-66 (OT), RICE -11' 66-52

HAWAII over Tulsa by 6 to 9?03-Hi +3 73-71 (2OT); 02-HI -4' 73-67 (OT), TULSA -7 76-51, TULSA -9 66-56 (CT)
