Trying to get my BBl handicapping done so no time for big write write up.

1:30 pm 5A Champ

Bainbridge 44
Warner Robins -17'

Not too many people expected to see a rematch of a regular season game between these 2 as Demons ran over Bearcats 38-0......Bainbridge is 9-5 which isn't the kind of record you would expect to see in a State Championship but Bearcats Cinderella Season continue as they dispatched 4 State ranked opponents. Will their lightning in a bottle commence today?

Warner Robins at 12-2 beat rival and avenged a loss from last year's state title game with Rome (45-28)*Rome was a team that that many Bulldogs pundits had as might have been the best team in Georgia and was riding a 40 game win streak.

Warner Robins is the better team no doubt and has outscored BB 73-6 in last 2 years.... Also, QB Dylan Fromm has passed for 4, 107 yards w/44 TDs (yes his older brother Jake plays for Bulldogs)

2 units on the Over 44 WIN FS: BB 47 WR 41 (OT) /or 38-35 *Not sure exactly what score is correct

2 units on WR - 17' LOSS

Bainbridge up 28-7 in the 3rd quarter.... Went back to check on some things and found Bainbridge was ravaged by Hurricane Michael 2 weeks before they played Warner Robins and about the time of their losses in league play..... Wish I had seen that earlier....... Definitely would have changed my position on this game..... Good for Bearcats running the table after such a calamity... Hopefully the Over cashes here.. Next

Northside 46
Lee County -21

Let's see if I can do better on the side on this one.

Both Head Coach's in their 10th year.... Both programs played in regular season with Lee County (14-0) beating Northside (9-5)..24-7.....Not huge but when you consider the Trojans ran the table outscoring opponents 610-77 and their Defense only allowed 5.5 ppg then that game was the closest anyone has come.

Northside QB Jadin Daniel's is a major talent as the dual threat has 1,565 yards passing and 1,544 rushing (probably the most even stats I've seen from a dual threat QB) and also Northside had a 7-3 lead at the half before Trojans answered with 21 points in the 2nd half...

Trojans are the defending state Champs.... Last year, they beat Coffee 28-21 (OT) but in regular season they won 23-7......something looks familiar here..... Just think this game might be a little closer than expected and while I don't believe Eagles get a Win, I like the points

*Early bird special

Athens Academy 60
Eagles Landing Christian Academy -13'

Eagles Landing Christian Academy (12-1) had a 37 game win streak end with a 17-16 loss to Pace Academy (3A) in their 2nd week..... Chargers strength is their run game averaging 366.1 yards per game. Jr RB Keaton Mitchell (5'9" 170 lbs) has accounted for 2,336 yards with a whopping 47 TDs on the ground.... Sr QB Brayden Rush (5'11 195 lbs) has passed for 1,477 yards w/21 TDs and is a danger to pull it down rushing for 648 yards *last week he rushed for a career high 220 yards.. Soph RB Josh Rogers (5'7" 160 lbs) has added 997 rush yards.... WR/CB Justin Menard (committed to C Florida) is a big talent...... WR/CB Justin Robinson also has SEC/ACC offers, so there is D1 talent sprinkled on this roster.....The offense has scored 99 Total TDs.

Athens Academy Spartans (13-0) are trying to the schools first State Title for the 2nd year in a row meeting the same nemesis..... Last year Spartans suffered a 41-3 setback.... QB Palmer Bush is 91 of 130 passing for 1,478 yards w/15 TDs..... RB Len'veth Whitehead has rushed for 1,377 yards.... Spartans are 26-1 in the past 2 Seasons with the only loss to ELCA.....

While it's been easy covers thus far in these Championships, I'm not sure Athens has much of a chance here..... In 2 common opposition, ELCA beat Savannah Christian last week 70-21, while Athens beat Savannah earlier in the season 20-7.....Against Mt Vernon Presbyterian Athens won 27-13 while ELCA won 42-21.....

ELCA is trying to become the 3rd school in Georgia High School History to win 4 straight State Titles (Burford and West Rome).... Athens in 0-2 against Chargers... ELCA is 42-0 over all Class A opponents.... Just don't see this one being any different.

Heard County 52
Rockmart -11'

Despite Rockmart (14-0) thumping Heard County Braves (12-2) in the 3rd week 33-0 *Heard County actually quit at halftime down this much... And I was thinking what kind of HC let's his team quit but upon further review there were some extenuating circumstances involved. Evidently the game was being played in a typhoon and Braves had numerous injurys before and during game. At the half, the game was put on hold for lightning strikes and the delays became longer and longer... HC Tim Barron (17th year) decided to not risk further injury on a field that was drenched and with the many injurys, and not wanting to continue playing at midnight, the HC made a decision to pull his team and tuck their tails back home. HC Barron received a ton of criticism through social media as could be expected but without knowing the full story, everyone thought it was poor sportsmanship.... To add insult to injury, Heard County also lost the week before to perennial power Hapeville Charter 33-3.....This led Barron to self evaluate his position and his Coaches and his program...The following Monday the Coach met with players individually to ask them to rededicate themselves to the program and move forward... Evidently the move produced results as Heard ran the gauntlet winning their next 11 games and putting them into the State Championship for the first time ever..... A risky bet but it paid off as the team is healthy and ready to challenge.

Rockmart Yellowjackets are undefeated and trying to remain perfect for the first time since 1950 when the school captured the A Title... Rockmart started the year flying under the radar and being unranked..... Yellowjackets ran through league outscoring opponents 371-40... However, it should be noted that the West Region was considered a weaker conference... RB Markus Smith has rushed for nearly 1,200 yards w/18 TDs and also plays S having 3 INTs (2 returned for TDs)...

I think this game could be close with a possibility that the Braves pulling off a upset.... Braves are a different team and have some D1 athletes... Sr QB Alijah Huzzie has come into his own having passed for 1,500 yards w/28 TDs and RB Aaron Beasley should go over the 2,000 yard mark in this game (also leads team on Defense as a FS *He didn't dress for the Rockmart game in week 3....

Heard County survived a OT win last week to advance over Fitzgerald 38-30......Rockmart beat Callaway 28-22 and survived a final drive inside the 10 as the gun sounded... *Heard beat Callaway 13-10 during the season....... As for the total, I'm not sure what will happen so I'm treading lightly.

Cartersville 44'
Blessed Trinity -1

Happens to be the only Championship game featuring 2 undefeated teams. Blessed Trinity Titans (14-0) are meeting Cartersville Hurricanes (14-0) and both have eerily similar stats.... Cartersville was supposed to be in a rebuilding year after losing 18 starters to graduation, including perhaps the #1 QB recruit Trevor Lawrence (now playing at Clemson) and replacing the whole O-Line.... Jr QB Tee Webb (3 Star recruit) has passed for 35 TDs with 10 INTs (he has a 58.6 % completion rate).... HC Joey King has done a remarkable job with this team and has over exceeded all expectations... The Canes won State Titles in 2015 & 2016 and are trying to capture their 3rd State Champ in 4 years.

Blessed Trinity will go as far as their top RB Steele Chambers will take them (1,500 rush yards w/25 TDs) the Ohio St commit is a danger to take it to the house every time he touches the ball... The Titans are the defending State Champs having beat Cartersville last year 21-17 in a nail biter... Almost the whole team is back with returning QB, RB, WR, and Top Defender back... Titans come in riding a 20 game win streak.... The team has several Div 1 recruits as does Cartersville.

Both team stats are similar... Both teams average 38 ppg while allowing less than 12 ppg.... Total TDs by both teams are 67....Cartersville has 4,865 total yards while BT has 4,843.......Cartersville averages 5.1 ypc while BT averages 5.1.....Cartersville averages 14.6 ypc while BT 15.9.

Blessed Trinity beat Marist 6 games ago 10-7...Cartersville beat Marist last week 17-14.....Cartersville beat Troup County 43-10 5 games ago while BT beat Troup Co last week 51-35....

I just feel that Blessed Trinity with most of their starters back is the smarter wager..... Think the pots light on this total so I'm liking the Over here...

5 pm 7A State Championship

Milton 49
Colquitt County -22'

Hmm, +22' points in a State Championship game? Really? Look, I get it, Colquitt under HC Rush Probst (still can't get that image out of my head when he starred in MTVs 2-A-Days as HC of Alabama Hoover High Bucs)... But I digress, CC is in its 4th State Title game appearance in 5 years and has won 3 State Championships (interestingly they were 15-0 in all seasons in which they captured the ring) Packers HC P Rush was just awarded the 2018 Coach of the Year.... Also, Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald (kid has a huge leg, kicking 20 FGs in his career with 66 of 66 PATs) and kicked the tying points last week with no time left to push the Semifinal with Archer to OT and won 22-21..He received the Special Teams Player of the Year, Jr RB Daijun Edwards (1,379 rush yards w/26 TDs is the Offensive Player of the Year... Jr QB Jaycee Harden (6'0" 175 lbs) is a pocket passer with 2,396 yards (62% comp) w/22 TDs (6 INT).... Also, Sr RB Ty Leggett has added nearly another 1,000 yards on the ground.... Packers returned 8 Offensive/9 Defensive Starters from last years team that lost 19-17 to North Gwinnett in the Champ. The team has a huge O&D Line with Sr Kamaar Bell (6'3" 310 lbs) and Sr DL Brian Merritt (5'11" 290 lbs) getting D1 offers as is half of the Packers roster.... Everybody expected this team to be here and they are with a Defense only allowing 10.1 ppg.

Enter Milton Eagles (12-2) with 3rd year HC Adam Clack (21-5)......Milton has a tremendous dual threat Sr QB Jordan Yates (6'2" 185 lbs) who has similar pass yards to Harden with 2,414 pass yards w/23 TDs (64% comp) and 862 rush yards with another 13 TDs (he's a 3 Star recruit heading to Georgia Tech)... Sr RB Joshua Edwards has 1,088 rush yards w/18 TDs and Sr WR Dylan Leonard (6'5" 200 lbs) with 837 receiving yards w/10 TDs can sky for jump balls (headed to Kentucky)... The Eagles also bring in SS/WR J Charleston for big catches as the Clemson commit is the goto receiver..... 2 weeks ago against Hillgrove (a 20-19 win) QB Yates rushed for a 149 yards to cement the win.... This team, despite 2 losses is battle tested and has D1 talent deep in the roster... The Eagles actually have 6 different receivers with at least 12 receptions in the playoffs so they utilize everyone, which makes CC secondary having to guess...

Milton's 2 losses to Roswell (A Region Champ) was a 2 point loss 22-20, and the other loss was to Parkview (37-35) Another Region Champ..... Milton beat Archer 21-19 (the team CC went to OT with last week in the Semis..... Milton also beat Cardinal Gibbons 42-17 which is a 12-2 team playing for the 5A State Champ in Florida....

The point here is that 22 points is a lot for a battle tested Senior laden team.... Add to the fact that the Underdogs are cleaning up in the Georgia State Title games, i like my chances.
