wrote this a few weeks ago for my shareclub. hope everyone had a good weekend and now since summer is over maybe some more volume on the markets, should be fun...
I receive a lot of advertising information about newsletters. Some newsletters are good and could help the investor however a great deal are well.....garbage. I would say 75-90% of the sample newsletters I get are pure hype, garbage, waste of paper, well you get the idea. Here are some warning signs the newsletter might be a waste of paper.
1. Newsletter writer tells you how rich he is, owns so many homes, cars, goes skiing in Europe resorts every winter. WARNING who cares, maybe that just means he get enough suckers to buy his trash.
2. Claims he has made over an 80-120% return; some newsletters have great years, but if he can make 120% every year why does he bother selling you the information. Many newsletters will monthly/weekly low (when they recommend buying a stock) and the monthly/weekly high when selling. This is what many small cap newsletters do which is quite phony since the volume can be very light and in some cases only a few thousand shares trade before the stock falls sharply. Also many do not tell their readers they just state if after the fact as a sell. I wish in the real world you could state (sell) if my small cap fell 60%. WARNING!!
3. If he says he is being hunted down, and their are people in this world who want to stop him from sharing his knowledge. no kidding got three along these lines so it must work.. WARNING
4. If during the interview (telling you how great his newsletter is) he asks the interviewer (who serverd in the military) did you kill anyone. WARNING
5. If there is a picture of the President with the newsletter writer WARNING
6. If underneath the caption a) the President knows who he is, b) is glad to see him, c) planned his day around seeing him. WARNING WARNING WARNING
7. If among his top 5 points are what War he served in, or his parents served in...this though courageous has nothing with picking out stocks....warning
8. If there is a hotline for only another $100-$300 (ussually a month, but sometimes a year). Warning most of these hotlines with the latest info are just another to suck more money out of you. WARNING
9. If the newsletter writer and many do get paid by select companies to promote their companies. This can be done by cash or if you want information about the company you get this newsletter, the newsletter writer gets a large audience of people to sell his .......garbage to; thanks to the company. often it is just cash and sometime promotion. In exchange the newsletter writer always has nice things to say. WARNING.
10. How little time it takes, there are newsletter and hotlines that have systems, they say it takes only 15 minutes a day to make millions a years, with very little money. a) even in the flyer only one out of 20 made $60,000 the rest all made profits (we are told) of $10,000 if these are the top 20 what are the rest like did they lose their homes. Many newslettlers in the commodity markets make these claims if you can understand coffee futures in just 15 minutes a day and make millions.... you are a GOD, no question about that. It has taken me 3 years and I still can be classified a novice in trading futures so tread carefully.
Remeber these newsletter writers do not care if you lose large amounts or your house they can easily replace you next year, with the next sign up campaign.
note: there are some good newsletter out there but latley I have seen a lot of garbage, people paying large amounts of money for...crap, garbage..you get the idea..I hope.
thanks
