I am very happy that he is finally getting into the Hall of Fame. When I was 8 my parents took the family to Montreal and we happened to catch an Expos game. The only thing I remember is that I was trying to get an autograph before the game and Carter was the only one that signed one and he talked with me and my dad for what seemed like forever, but most likely 3 minutes. I did not know who he was at the time, but he hit a homerun and from then on he became my favorite player. It was tough growing up having a catcher as your favorite player, most people my age didn't even know who he was. It is very frustrating when I hear annoucers talk about great catchers and all I hear is Fisk and Bench, maybe now you will hear Carter's name.

PS: The other thing I remember is the Happy Days cast and crew played a softball game before the actual game started. Wow, did I just show my age.

nice story. I never did like him and his attitude and his perm. Something turned me off to him; I think it was his move to the Mets. Anyway, nothing like a good thing to happen to your favorite player (my favorite was Eric Davis, but I don't think he'll be making the Hall. Bad managers and the big "C" hurt those chances :( )
