Heard County's highly regarded running back announced his intentions to sign with Mark Richt's Bulldogs at a Halloween morning news conference at his high school. Clemson and LSU were the other finalists for the four-star recruit, who piled up dozens of scholarship offers from Division I-A powers.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Jackson becomes the 22nd player in the class of 2008 to say yes to the Bulldogs. Georgia's class went into Wednesday trailing only Notre Dame in Rivals.com's team rankings. Georgia was No. 3 in Scout.com's rankings, behind Notre Dame and UCLA.

? Where Jackson ranks: Rivals.com recruiting analysts think even more of Jackson as a prospect than they did past running back recruits Caleb King and Knowshon Moreno. Jackson is the Web site's No. 5 running back overall, its No. 4 prospect in Georgia and its No. 68 high school senior (regardless of position) nationally.

Scout.com isn't as sold on Jackson, who suffered a broken wrist in his team's season opener and has watched from the sidelines ever since. Scout.com analysts rank Jackson 12th nationally among running backs and No. 102 among all players.

? Statistically speaking: As a junior, the AJC Super 11 pick rushed for 2,462 yards and 29 touchdowns on 247 carries (9.97 yards per carry). He bench-presses 315 pounds, squats 485 and power cleans 335. He's been clocked in the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds.

? What they're saying: How big of an impact will Jackson have in Athens? Scout.com's Scott Kennedy weighs in: "I think this season has shown more than ever why you have to recruit depth. Knowshon Moreno was No. 3 on the depth chart going into the season. Had he been afraid to compete with [the since-injured] Kregg Lumpkin and Thomas Brown, he might be at a different school, and not the SEC player of the week. Of course, it's that willingness to compete that makes a good player a special player.

"Getting Jackson guarantees the Bulldogs a great back. It might not be Moreno next year. It might be Caleb King. It might be Jackson. He is an all-around runner that can help a team win, and adding guys like him will ensure that the stable at running back stays full despite the inevitable attrition."

? Fast fact: Jackson, who expects to graduate from high school in December, will become the first member of his family to attend college.
