ATHENS, Ga. -- For the first time in almost 50 years, Georgia's football
team has scheduled a road trip to a Pac-10 school.
Georgia athletic director Damon Evans, holding firm to a public commitment
to bring a national presence to the Bulldogs' schedule, announced Wednesday
a home-and-home series with Arizona State in 2008 and 2009. This will be the
first time the teams have played.
Georgia will play the Sun Devils in Tempe, Ariz., on September 20th, 2008.
Arizona State will visit Athens on September 16th, 2009.
Georgia last played at a Pac-10 school in the 1960 season, when quarterback
Fran Tarkenton and the Bulldogs lost at USC 10-3.
Evans said he believed it was an attractive intersectional game.
Georgia played host to Oregon State of the Pac-Ten in 1987, taking a 41-7
win in Athens.
Arizona State's AD Gene Smith called the series with Georgia "an intriguing
matchup between institutions from major conferences."
Last week, Georgia announced it will play its 2005 season opener at home
against Boise State. The Bulldogs did not schedule a return trip to Idaho.
