Nothing to see here. Just a teacher firing a gun in a school. :0003

Never could have seen this coming, he sounds like a real stable teacher.....It almost seemed scripted but it couldn't be, especially just after a heated debate over teachers being armed.....One teacher, one bullet, great job by the armed resource officer......Wow, what a coincidence.....:0008

Does this make you feel better or worse about arming teachers?

I'd feel better if there was a process in place to handle people with obvious issues that would take them off the streets for observations and get them the help they need.....

Do I like teachers being armed with guns in school, no......But since the issue hasn't been dealt with head on over the years I'll take my chances until a better solution has been proposed/implemented.....:0008

In my neck of the world we've have had multiple school threats over the last few month, each time nothing has happened to the offender but a slap on the wrist.....There seems to be little consequences these days for people who violate the law.....At some point we as a society need to get tougher with our stance and hold people accountable, then I'll be happy......:0008

 I agree with you here Sports. The problem is the mainstream media and the left want guns banned, they will go to these type incidents to try and get what they want, sort of like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum. Definitely a FALSE FLAG

Yeah, it's the media fault! :mj07:

The only reason people need guns for self defense is because we let other people have them. We're such a stupid society.

You haven't quite thought that through, have you?

Obvious issues?....Well, duh, that's a no-brainer. Problem is, nobody has a list of those folks. Take the Vegas shooter - nothing in his past or record - nothing. And the nightclub shooter - also nothing. And this recent shooter in the Florida school, what did anyone know about him other than he was a poor student and a bit obstreperous? Nothing.

So, unless you have a secret list of likely mass killers that you haven't shared with law enforcement. then we need another solution. Or do you intend to arrest people based on what you think they might do? Who's going to do that? The thought police? Trump's Gestapo?

Nein, Herr Ferhur, Nein.. Die gedanken sind frei.

How about we outlaw military style semi-auto rifles with high capacity magazines? Just as we outlawed full auto weapons in 1933?

When was the last mass murder with a six shot revolver, a shotgun or a hunting rifle? Since your answer will obviously be : Duh? I'll help you out.

August 1, 1966. Charles Whitman, ex-Marine sharpshooter took a position in an observation tower at the U of Texas. He was armed with :

Remington 700 ADL (6mm)
Universal M1 carbine
Remington Model 141 (.35-caliber)
Sears Model 60 Semi-automatic shotgun (12 gauge)
S&W Model 19 (.357 Magnum)
Luger P08 (9mm)
Galesi-Brescia (.25 ACP)
Knife

And he managed to kill 16 people. If he'd had a single AR15 and adequate ammo, he might have killed more than a hundred.

And don't give me any 2nd Amendment shit. What part of "A well regulated militia" don't you understand?

Duff, I've said it before and I'll say it yet again, I HAVE NO ISSUES WITH TAKING AWAY ASSULT WEAPONS, they are only good for two reasons, shooting targets and shooting people.....I'm not a gun fan......I go hunting with my son with no bullets in the chamber, just one in my pocket.

"Obvious issues", yes the FLA shooter was reported numerous times by students, teachers, concerned citizens to police and fbi yet nothing happened and 17 people lost their lives.....

We had a kid threatened to shoot up a local school this week and the kids that reported him.....He was back on the streets within a couple of hours, released to his parent....Unacceptable in my book.....There needs to be more accountability in society plain and simple......

I don't claim to have all the answers, there is a serious mental health issue that needs to be addressed....There's a huge gun issue that needs to be addressed.....There isn't a one solution that fits all imho......I'm tired of all the shootings, senseless deaths....People need to talk and work out the issues and come up with a plan.....I see some hope from the Governor's Meeting with Trump earlier this week.....Where it goes, we'll see.

I'm glad you aren't a gun nut and don't mind banning military style weapons, but....

You have sidestepped the question as to how potential mass murders would be identified and prevented.

The Florida shooter was "reported". Okay, he was a bad boy and people knew that. He said some wild stuff. None of those things are crimes. And there are thousands, tens of thousands of people who say the same shit but never act on it.

So what would you have law enforcement do based on these "reports"? Was he ever charged with a crime? Adjudicated mentally unstable? No. So what would you do - lock him away because somebody said they were apprehensive about him?

Look here. You can walk down the street saying you want to kill some people. And maybe a cop will take you in for questioning, but since you have committed no crime, you will be let go. Do you want people to be imprisoned because they have said threatening things, but have not actually done anything? What about the millions of Bubbas who said they'd like to see Obama killed?

And how would you address mental health? You walk down the street in any major USA city and see street people who are obviously mentally incompetent. They sit on the curb and babble, lurch down the sidewalk, don't have a clue about anything. Do you want to lock them all away? Send them all to a psych? Hell, in the years after Viet Nam there were tens of thousands of young men who were mentally disturbed. Lock 'em up?

I haven't sidestepped anything.....There are so many soft targets out there if one wants to kill, you'll never stop it if one wants to go that route.....

If anyone targets a school/student/teacher with a threat there needs to be consequences, what those are is beyond my scope of state/fed law.....I know I would rather see a harsh deterrent than a slap on the wrist....

If law allows, maybe some sort of date base program where info can be reported on individuals that citizens/schools/police/fbi ect feel to be a potential threat....Persons that may have made threats, broken the law, been reports with potential mental issues ect....Probably a long shot but may spark other ideas....

As I've said there is no one answer, but people need to communicate and see both sides of the issue to come up with a solution.....Just telling people they are wrong and insulting each other doesn't work, try being nice to each other it's really not that hard......:toast:

Okay. I'll try to be really nice to you, but in return you're going to have to deal with reality and not spout the NRA line "It's a psychiatric issue".

There were reports that the Florida school shooter might possibly be dangerous, but nothing serious enough that he could have been locked up or forced into a mental facility. He killed 17.

Las Vegas, 58 killed, 851 injured, was done by Stefan Paddock who had no known mental issues or erratic behavior which would have called attention to him.

The Texas church shooting, 26 killed, 20 injured was done by Devin Patrick, who had been discharged from the AF for bad conduct, but was able to buy a gun anyway.

The Florida nightclub shooting, 50 killed, 48 injured, was done by Omar Mateen who worked as a security guard and had passed two background checks.

So what's the commonality between these four recent mass killers? None were obviously so deranged as to be confined.

All used AR15s or some variant thereof.

Do you really think any one of them would have done mass killings if they had to use a six shot revolver or a five shot bolt action rifle?

I don't. If high capacity magazine rifles were not available, they would not have acted, or at least wold have done far less damage.

Ban AR15 and similar military weapons and mass killings will sharply decline.

And fuck the NRA bullshit.
